We're excited to share a preview of the upcoming quoting features in BotKit 0.2.0. This update will make it easier for your bots to engage with quoted content across the fediverse.
The quoting feature set includes:
- Detecting when someone quotes your bot's posts with the new
Bot.onQuoteevent handler - Accessing quoted content through the
Message.quoteTargetproperty - Creating quote posts using the
quoteTargetoption inSession.publish()andMessage.reply()methods

Also, Friendica, Hubzilla, (streams) and Forte handle quote-posts a lot differently from Misskey and the Forkeys.

Often frustrated with #Mastodon's character limit?
You should know: your instance sets the character limits, not Mastodon itself. Your admins could increase it.
Or: #Microblogging (i. e. Twitter-like social media) might simply not be what you want!
Feel free to look for other #Fediverse software like #Friendica that are tailored towards long-form posts and expanded profiles.
You can still interact with the same people – that's the point of #Fedi. #PSA
@andreas_heitmann viel Spaß! ... zwischenzeitlich war wohl friendica.world ziemlich langsam, weil es zu groß wurde, aber vielleicht ist das momentan wieder besser.
Es gibt inzwischen eine sehr gute Eintiegshilfe für #Friendica

Ich habe mich jetzt auf friendica.world einquartiert. Der Ersteindruck ist ein guter.
Nehmen wir z. B. #friendica. Da gibt es ein "directory" mit u. a. öffentlichen Servern und dann bekommt man eine Textwüste, durch die man sich durchklicken muss und jede Menge Zahlen, aber keine Legende, was diese bedeuten. Infos über Server sind auch oft Fehlanzeige. Da mutet es schon unfreiwillig komisch an, wenn da (nicht wenige) Server sind mit 1-3 Usern und man sich dann für einen davon entscheiden muss. (2/3)
@andreas_heitmann ah, kennst Du noch nicht? für mich eins der Killerfeatures von #Sharkey ! So eine Art themenspezifische Timelines, die man selbst definieren und verschiedene Suchworte kombinieren kann.
#Friendica hat ähnliches mit den Kanälen, aber die Antennen funktionieren m.E.n. noch besser. Schau mal unter "Mehr!"
Misskey, und dessen andere Forks haben das m.W. alle, z.T. heißt es auch News-Picker. Hier ist eine Anleitung zu Antennas. Es ist aber z.T. ein bisschen tricky, weil es als Volltextsuche läuft und auch Wortteile gefunden werden. Dann wird z.T. zu viel gefunden, was nicht passt. Zum Beispiel habe ich eine Musik-Antenne mit u.a. Punk als Suchbegriff. Da kamen dann aber auch Beiträge rein zu Solarpunk oder mit dem Begriff "Punkt". Diese Begriffe habe ich dann nach und nach ausgeschlossen.

Lemmy ist wie ein föderiertes Reddit aufgebaut: Der Fokus liegt auf Themen-Communities, in denen Beiträge (z. B. Links, Texte, Bilder) gepostet und kommentiert werden. Die Diskussionen sind eher threadbasiert und themenzentriert.
Eingeladen sind ebenso alle, die bereits Erfahrungen mit Mastodon, Friendica, Pixelfed, Misskey, Hubzilla oder anderen Anwendungen haben und ihr Wissen gerne weitergeben möchten.
Wissensaustausch: Deine Kenntnisse im Fediverse könnten anderen Teilnehmern sehr nützlich sein, besonders denjenigen, die noch neu in der Community sind. Networking: Dies ist eine hervorragende Gelegenheit, sich mit anderen engagierten Mitgliedern der Gemeinschaft zu vernetzen und neue Kontakte zu knüpfen. Das Online-Treffen findet auf unserem BigBlueButton-Server statt. Du benötigst keine zusätzliche Software, sondern nur einen Browser – vorzugsweise Firefox oder Chrome – ein Mikrofon (es handelt sich schließlich um eine Sprechstunde) und, wenn du möchtest, eine Webcam. Wir freuen uns auf einen lebhaften Austausch! 
Der Ablauf der Sprechstunde sieht folgendermaßen aus: Zu Beginn geben wir Tipps und Hinweise für Anfänger und Einsteiger. Anschließend geht es um Ratschläge für Instanzbetreiber und Moderatoren. Ein solcher Austausch ist wichtig und notwendig für eine gute Vernetzung untereinander. Die Welt des Fediverse ist Größer und vielfältiger. Mehr Miteinander statt Gegeneinander.
Je mehr mitmachen, desto besser!

So, I really like #Friendica, and I want to use it all the time, but *almost every time* I log in, I get a 504 error when trying to load /network. It makes me very sad.
Ob ich es wohl noch einmal mit #friendica ersuchen sollte ..?!

Has anyone setting up a #friendica instance for the #fediverse run into an issue where #php is unable to get authorized to log in to #mysql or #mariadb ? I am able to log in as those users in the cli and adminer webpages, and the user is given all privileges + has a wildcard for the host name.
