Mayel @mayel

Proud to have launched phase one of HAHA Academy (an online platform @Gin is starting up):

haha.academy/ (make sure to check out the of human knowledge)

We're now officially a organisation (registered in Estonia, thanks to the ease of e-Residency) and would welcome contributions from volunteers (, curators, designers, developers, etc) and donors.

Please spread the word, and get in touch if you can help in some way!

HAHA itself will be completely gratis and libre (, , ), and will focus on indexing and curating (and later producing) freely available content.

Our mission is to empower humans of all ages to continuously follow our passions and curiosities, and become more enlightened individuals.

Side note, what instance on the fediverse do you think would be most accommodating for a nonprofit project like HAHA? Not sure about as we're not technically a (even though we're a membership-based independent association)...

@mayel well... if you ran a dedicated instance (eg. haha.social) you could use it as both a social and an organization tool, sharing updates, news, but also new courses etc...

@Antanicus oooh that's a great idea! thanks :)

@mayel in the UK at least any group of people working together and following the coop principles can call themselves / are a coop

@mayel
OH BOY THIS IS SO COOL :D

I'll be glad to help any way I can!

@Antanicus @mayel

<3 That's great to hear and I'm so glad you like the idea!! Let's set up a Skype date so we can plan more! :)

@mayel @Gin

That's cool, congrats! How was your experience with setting up an Estonian non-profit? What advantages and disadvantages did it bring? (And also, how much did it cost?)

I've been putting off officially registering a non-profit, but I hadn't considered doing that through Estonia yet, so now that you've planted the seed I'm wondering if that's something I should be looking to pursue :)

@Flockademic

The first step would be registering as an e-Resident (which now costs 100 euros), and once you have your card (which is basically a public/private key signing dongle) you can register and manage your organisation online (for a non-profit registration costs 20 euros).

@Gin

@Flockademic

You will also need to write Bylaws (Articles of Association) and a Memorandum of Association. We used those from Wikimedia Foundation's Estonian chapter as a starting point: ee.wikimedia.org/wiki/Bylaws (happy to share our version as well).

We submitted ours in English, but had to also provide a translation in Estonian (another 120 euros for an Estonian court-certified translator).

@Gin

@Flockademic

The online portal and even the correspondence (over email) with the registrar are in both English and Estonian, so it's pretty painless.

Ah, and you also need an address in Estonia for your "HQ". We found a co-working space that agreed for us to use their address.

@Gin

@mayel Thanks for the detailed response, it provides a very clear view of the costs of benefits!

@mayel @Gin I'm loving it so much but I think I'm not getting the point 100%.
I have to check it further.

I think elenq.tech can take part on something like this. I'm interested.
