Hi, I'm Eliot! I program computers for a living, currently working in medtech with a prior stint in the game industry. I still enjoy and when I can find the time. I'm bi/pan, a Jewish Atheist, and a former film student trained in sound design.

Nice to meet you! 🙂

@Eliot_L @Eliot_L@mastodon.social welcome! Out of curiosity, why two accounts?

@resing Thank you! My first account back from 2017 was @Eliot_L@mastodon.social and I just opened up this one today. I am considering moving everything over here but I wanted to test drive it a little bit first.

@Eliot_L @Eliot_L@mastodon.social that makes sense. For what it's worth, my experience at social.coop has been great! I appreciate the approach, though it has a little more overhead getting started

@Eliot_L@social.coop @Eliot_L@mastodon.social thank you, likewise. The rest of my family are also Jewish atheists. As the Christian atheist who married a nice Jewish girl, I am the outlier. I carry my lack of religion softly, however. Let others find their own way. I have come to my own conclusions, but I can see value in following other spiritual paths, even if I do not personally embrace them. “There are more things in heaven and earth …”

@Eliot_L@social.coop @Eliot_L@mastodon.social I also share a mild interest in open source software. I am not a programmer but my first Linux system was (I think) RedHat 5.1 in the late 90’s, although I had briefly tried out FreeBSD on my beloved Macintosh IIsi.

@Eliot_L@social.coop @Eliot_L@mastodon.social I switched to Debian-based systems pretty early, although I did flirt with Arch Linux on a laptop for a while. I even contributed to the very early GNOME documentation (since superseded.) I am devoted to #Emacs, and I still run Ubuntu in the cloud, even if my work computers are all MacOS (with Homebrew!). My wife still ribs me about configuring my text editor to play music after I installed mpd and Ampache on my desktop — another era!
