Last lesson of my #electronics introduction in my construction class today (upper secondary school). Today I introduced capacitors and potentiometers, and they also got the opportunity to practice #soldering.

My favourite teaching moment ever is when I've showed how a potentiometer works, and let them know that it's time to start creating circuits. But instead of handing out potentiometers I give them a pen and a piece of paper (see alt text for details).

Two wires, one black and one red, have their ends taped to the outer edges of the graphite patch. On the left a hand is seen holding a third, white, wire with it's end pushing against the graphite, close to the edge where the black wire is attached. Graphite is quite conductive, but also have a relatively high resistivity. This means that the patch of graphite conducts current, but can have a resistance in the range of a few kOhms to MOhms depending on how wide, thick and long you make the patch. By moving the white wire back and forth on the graphite patch between the two other wires, the resistance between the middle wire and the other wires varies. Closer means less resistance and vice versa. This exactly mimics how a potentiometer works. By using only one of the edge wires you can instead mimic a rheostat. Only using the edge wires makes a regular resistor.

Had the second part of basic #electronics with my class today. A few more circuits to practice on and introduced capacitors as well.

Whomever wanted also had the opportunity to try their hand at #soldering. Several kids had never tried before and gave it a go with some simple circuits.

One kid really took to it and tried their hand at some relatively complicated circuits, like an LED flip-flop.

Sometimes it's fun to be a #teacher...

Imorgon är sista dagen innan #SommarLov. Första året som #lärare har varit ungefär så tufft som jag förväntade, eller lite mer faktiskt. Men, det har också varit ett roligt år och jag trivs fantastiskt bra på min skola och har fantastiska kollegor.

Nu ser jag verkligen fram emot en sommar där jag inte behöver jobba för första gången sen 2018...

@avadeaux Precis. Påtvingade uppgifter är aldrig kul.

Så om eleverna skulle få välja ganska fritt blir det roligare? Fundering: det kanske inte går att generalisera så…vissa kanske måste få exakta uppgifter. Lurigt det där. Kanske just den klurigheten som är det roliga med att vara #lärare?

Lite dålig planering från min sida... Att bli klar med lärarutbildningen lagom till att skolväsendet verkar haverera totalt; med nedskärningar som vilken normal människa som helst skulle fatta inte är rimliga, på någon nivå, om man vill ha en fungerande skola.

Om någon vet om ett matte-/tekniklärarjobb (gymnasiet) i Göteborg med omnejd (allt är relativt), med start till hösten, hojta gärna till.
