@OutOfSpace

The most interesting part is how the whole thing has been hidden in plain sight.

#ConsumerCredit reached an all time high under the #Biden/ #Harris administration in the #USA. And while they tried to mitigate that somewhat by for instance restructuring programs for #StudentLoans, the double #burden of stagnating #wages and rising #inflation has pushed many households over the edge.

Now #Trump is adding way more inflation to the mix & laying off tens of thousands of govt #workers.

If you're not #queer, or #disabled, or #BIPOC, or #poor, you will be fine over the next four years. This means your #perspective of the situation and its #danger is extremely limited. You are not in a position to #lead or #strategize for #resistance. You need to #follow the lead of #people who do know the stakes directly. And you need to take on as much of the #burden of resistance yourself as possible, taking it off the backs of #vulnerable people.

إِصْـرْ (burden);

Well well well, 3 days of "vacation" passed already and I've almost got used to it and forgot to post here! We had some drama during this vacation so, it's like I needed more days. Sorry for not checking your amazing art folks, but hopefully I'll catch up soon.
Anyway, here is a shot I've made in the last week of 2024, and posting it now. The idea is about the "unnecessary" burden that we (or, most of us) might carry on our shoulders from the culture, the community, or family, as we go on in this life. The burden is not necessarily enforced, I'd argue, but sometimes it is just how we believe things should be for some issues in this life based on what or how our environment shaped us when we were younger. So, we keep on carrying that burden and drag it all along however messy it can get. Sometimes, the burden can be, simply put, a trauma or a negative experience, that we just can't or try so hard for years, to get rid of.
Technically now, I've decided to shoot this one with my macro 100mm lens instead of my usual 50mm, and the composition, well, definitely not a minimal one. Putting the whole thing in style of the previous shots probably would make it lose dimension and depth, and because of the structure itself, I had to put the camera in a lower level to get a glimpse of the carrying matchstick.

We have a double presentation at the end of this session: Simon Fraser PI MELD-B & Lynn Laidlaw PPI representative.

Their presentation is titled: Lost in translation? Looking for the lived experience of multiple long-term conditions in data

They share how the team moved away from talking about #burden to talking about the #workload of living with #MLTC. Their #PPIE contributors were allowed to make a difference to the project. And as Lynn says “language matters”.

A metallic globe of the Earth is depicted, covered in numerous sharp spikes that jut outward, symbolizing danger or conflict.
The globe features the continents and oceans as they are commonly recognized on a typical world map.
It has a chain attached to it which could imply weightiness or constraint, suggesting a heavy burden for the planet or its inhabitants.

Is this our #Humanity?

"Many who are growing old in precarious socioeconomic circumstances lack power and a voice. Under a #capitalist world order that often characterizes them as a #burden to the #economy, many marginalized elders are effectively treated as #nonliving beings and are left to die both #biologically and #socially.

“This is the place where they deposit us as if we were #useless, #expired, not being able to offer anything to society,” Anita told me of her life at La Merced. “We live in this institution devoid of #connection, #hope, and #support. Who cares if a few poor older adults in places such as this one are dying alone and abandoned? The world, our society, even our #children have turned their backs away from us.”

The risk we all run under Business As Usual.
