In theory, the US federal system with 3 counterbalancing bodies to ensure none assumes disproportionate power and that there is appropriate accountability is meritorious.
But it's been deeply corrupted and distorted by a mix of big money/lobbyists, gerrymandering, stacking and buying SCOTUS judgeships, wildly divergent State voting systems, massive voter suppression, filibustering etc.

"The Supreme Court on Saturday blocked, for now, the deportations of any Venezuelans held in northern Texas under an 18th-century wartime law.
"In a brief order, the court directed the Trump administration not to remove Venezuelans held in the #BluebonnetDetentionCenter 'until further order of this court.'

"The high court acted in an emergency appeal from the American Civil Liberties Union contending that immigration authorities appeared to be moving to restart removals under the #AlienEnemiesAct of 1798.
