requesting support from anyone with intimate knowledge on IME (Intel ME) and random OEM BIOS switches and extensions, as i dont have that extensive knowledge
ive stumbled upon a motherboard that seemingly has a fuck ton of stuff set to defaults and shipped with various extensions, notably a lot of the BIOS serial numbers and models are just, generic and not correct
more importantly however, there exists options to temporarily disable IME, although this resets upon full shutdown, confirming with intelmetool -m
i get a "Can't find ME PCI device" error when this is enabled, and normal information otherwise
does this imply that, the ME truly is very disabled, or is it just gaslighting?
further, there's an "Unconfigure ME" option, which i have no clue what does, and the description talks about resetting the MEBx password (the IME BIOS extension)
Alleï, un second thread sur Meï, alias le validisme contre-attaque.
Unfortunately, computers needs to be much, much and much more faster and intelligent for we, Japanese.
Conversion from ASCII-expressed string to Kanji/Kana strings by IME (until early 90's they were called FEP [Front End Processor], as they works between keyboard and application inputs) are still far from perfect (singificantly improved, though) and interrupts thinking, thus, ideas often disappears.
Some IMEs introduced clowd servers to attempt conversions more precise, but currently it made the conversion slower.
Maybe we need LLM and mighty AI on local side purely for IME.
Popular #Keyboard Apps Leak User Data: Billion Potentially Exposed
Popular keyboard apps leak user data! #CitizenLab reports 8 out of 9 #Android #IME expose keystrokes. Researchers analyzed keyboard apps from nine major vendors: #Baidu, #Honor, #Huawei, #iFlytek, #OPPO, #Samsung, #Tencent, #Vivo, and #Xiaomi. Alarmingly, they found vulnerabilities in eight of these apps that could allow attackers to steal users’ #keystrokes as they type. Is anyone aware of any software that lets me dictate into any text field on Linux, like the built in Windows dictation support?
I have tried *so* hard to find something that will work outside of whatever text field or document it's built into, and I can’t find it for the life of me. Please help!

Things like #Intel's management engine and #AMD's secure technology seem scary to me. Having a core that is totally independent from the user and has access to all the hardware on the computer, even when the computer is powered down, seems wildly inappropriate. Am I misunderstanding/overreacting to this? Are there viable alternative cpus for personal computing that don't have these subsystems?

I have written a new wiki entry at Mobian about PinePhone or similar mobile devices. With this you can use Japanese IME without Google just like same on the computer and without restrictions.
→ This method should also work with other distributions, please try it.

Disabling Intel Management Engine on Boot Guard computers.
The IME is a "ring -3" system in Intel CPUs. Due to security concerns, there are efforts to disable it.
Intel Boot Guard is for cryptographically verifying system firmware.
2 primary modes: Measured Boot and Verified Boot. In Verified Boot mode, the system will not boot if the firmware does not verify. This page explains how to check if your system uses Intel Boot Guard.
