So, I make bits of software, mostly plug-ins for platforms like #DaVinciResolve or #Blender, mostly because I have a particular thing that needs doing that no-one has catered to. And I yoik them up to Codeberg and if I'm feeling organised I'll write them up on my blog, so that anyone else that has the same particular need can benefit too. I have no intention of selling them, because marketing stuff is not something I remotely enjoy doing, testing and bug fixing is too time consuming, and because I consider it payment for all the free software I get to use.
Generally I release everything under the #GPL3, because it's the one I know about. I'm not really a #coder, and I'm far less a #lawyer, so I have no idea if this is the best option.
So the question I want to #AskFedi is: what do you do with small #code projects you write? What license do you release them under and why, and how do you go about distributing them?
I've only ever had one or two people fork my code or make PRs, I don't think a lot of people in my industry also code, so everything I do is a solo project. So I'd be interested in how people find collaborators for stuff they do.

With all the progress that has been done with liberating the digital space there is a sense of self defeating, depression. A kind of defense mechanism of sorts. As if the people settled for something and gave up trying to do anything else. Which in itself causing lack of morale, lack of vision, and with i...

If you want to warm your heart after whatever else you've been reading today, feel free to skim through the Annual Reports for Sugar Labs: sugarlabs.org/community/2025/0

I have yet to promote it on the official Sugar Labs channel. It's a treat, just for you! And, if you see any typos, please let me know. We don't, like, any staff to look over anything I've written. (Yes, I wrote all ~15 pages myself, without any help from gen-AI.)

🔥 To all users of Zorin OS ‘Lite’: this lightweight version using the #XFCE desktop environment will no longer be developed or maintained beyond Zorin OS 17 and 18 (end of support and maintenance in June 2029).
💡 2 solutions:
➡️ migrate to the Core, Pro or Education versions of Zorin OS
➡️ change GNU/Linux distribution

so, uh, the GPL's text proposes that an interactive-mode program should display something like this when starting up:

<program> Copyright (C) <year> <name of author>
This program comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY; for details type "show w".
This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it under certain conditions; type "show c" for details.

and i just realized that this is awfully similar to the way GDB's interface works. the notice is different, and the commands are show copying and show warranty instead, but you can see how the two are related.

if anything, this makes me think that the text used in the GPL might have been taken from an earlier version of GDB, back when show had fewer possible parameters and it was possible to unambiguously assign show c and show w to "show the program's license" and "show the warranty info"...

The challenge for Dani's Race is deliberately not to be a movie. As in the game should not have cuts, nor there ever should be a moment when the player loses control over the character. Yet through all those limitations I want to continue a story I started in an actua...
