@ajsadauskas @JessTheUnstill also #BlackBerry's #PlayBook #Tablet was released as a accessory screen for their Phones, which gave it "#WiiU-Effect" in terms of marketing.

  • Plus #RIM relying hard on business clients and their proprietary applianced mail systems and having big carriers upsell to business people made them look outdated & quite literally out of touch once #iPhone went mainstream.

I mean, the hardware was never their problem and #SMS-Typists swear by their #BlackberryCurve's #keyboard but BlackBerry's #toolchain - just like #SymbianOS's - was just hideous to the point that devs like @fuchsiii didn't even want to try making #Apps for those devices.

  • Unlike #Mozilla fucking up #FirefoxOS by refusing to sell devices to #developers, by the time RIM & #Nokia came from their high horses, their market shares had been squeezed into mere "rounding errors" by #iOS and #Android as it was way cheaper and easier to get #Apps developed, tested, sold, bought and use them than on their devices.

#Sony even released some #Symbian #S60 devices but since they didn't have the same signing keys, one couldn't even #sideload apps (not to mention they didn't had the #OviStore on those either!)...

:boost_ok: #PleaseBoost #FollowerPower: Anyone here having a #HMD / #Nokia #T20 TA-1397 #Tablet and can confirm if it can do #PhoneCall|s?

The Datasheet is inconclusive

Infosec.SpaceKevin Karhan :verified: (@kkarhan@infosec.space)Attached: 1 image [#TLDR: JUST TELL ME *IF* YOUR TABLET CAN DO #CALLS!] #DearVendors of #Android-#Tablets: Off all the #Functions you can put into a #Specifications Sheet of your Devices there's one you should *ALWAYS answer clearly* on your #Website: *DOES YOUR TABLET [with #4G / #5G / …) SUPPORT MAKING PHONE CALLS?* - *NOT* "It can run #WhatsApp" (or *whatever shitty #CCSS for #VoIP* you think of)... - *NOT* "It can do #CSD / #HSCSD / #2G / #3G /..." - *But* DOES IT SUPPORT #GSM-#Calls (and/or #VoLTE)?? Like: *IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK TO HAVE THAT INFO IN THE SPECSHEETS?* You're obviously able to list all the #Codecs natively supported and the user-available storage as well as supported Frequency Bands, WWAN modes, WiFi channel width and the Display Glass vs. Panel dimensions including DPI of the latter and whether or not it has a hall effect sensor to detect your overpriced 1st party tablet covers! Now some folks may ask: *"WHY does this matter?"* or outright dismiss this as a problem. Listen: Not everyone is able or willing to carry *two* devices when 1 *SHOULD BE ENOUGH* and also some places (i.e. #Turkey) have #ImportRestrictions re: #MobileDevices, so having more than 1 #IMEI is already a *"NOPE!"* by the authorities. - Also this isn't something one can *"fix"* post-purchase like installing #VLC to decode some obscure file format in Software: Either *the #Baseband and #ROM support #PhoneCalls or they don't!* So why do *NONE* of the #Tablet manufacturers allow to #search or #filter for that??? - Bonus points if you have lazy fucks like #HMD (aka. #Nokia) who literally copy the #Safety & #Useage information for all #Smartphones and #Tablets and don't even bother to change *"Mobile Phone"* for *"Tablet"*. *NO*, instead one has to download an *obscenely huge #PDF* just to then [read on page 34](https://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/202410/20241010132004137/SM-X11X_X21X_UM_Open_UU_Ger_Rev.1.2_240925.pdf) that for any *"#telephony"* function you *NEED YET ANOTHER DEVICE FROM THE SAME MANUFACTURER AND HAVE TO SIGNUP WITH AN ACCOUNT* and even that level of #abuse WON'T GUARANTEE THAT IT WORKS... - I mean, come on, this *ain't* some *obscure functionality* like #OMAPI to do some *"evil sourcery"* like *managing an #eSIM that is in a #SIM-Card form factor*! Pretty shure *A LOT* of other folks have the same question and ain't willing to get *yet another device & #SIM* just to recieve *the occasional call* because #TechIlliterates can't be assed to send an #eMail or learn #XMPP+#OMEMO to message one... - Obviously they same manufacturers are *able and willing* to specify *f-stops* of the built-in cameras and list *EVERY SINGLE #WEARABLE* they made and certify as *'compatible'* with, as if *anyone* is gonna take their non-#waterproof #Tablet for a marathon or god forbid triathlon... #Rant #TechSupport #Technology #Support #Sysadmin #Procurement #IT #SpecSheet #Tech

@EuropeanMade @Blaze @BuyEU @buyeuropean

Great to see you guys promoting the initiative of buying from EU, but there is something frustrating: I would love to tag #philips when I post about switching Oral-B to Sonicare, but #philips is not on Mastodon. I would be happy to tag #adidas when I mention why I chose it over Nike, but it is not here either. I olny buy #nokia phones, I love my #secrid wallet, #jabra headsets. But they are not here.
Homework to be done on their side.

Would #Apple missing the train on #AI really be comparable to #Blackberry missing the virtual keyboard pivot, or #Nokia failing due to the rise of smartphones? I have yet to see integrated #AI features that would make the difference for me to switch to another platform altogether. So far it just remains too gimmicky besides #chatGPT.

Found an old #nokia 6310 at my nans flat which she insisted I take home.

It looks like it needs a new battery, a new shell and a charger since none I have fit it very well.

Is it worth the ~£20 investment getting to going again? I think 2G is still working here but maybe not for long.

Skład złomu w komplecie. Od lewej:

- Nokia 6150 (1997), którą już wcześniej pokazywałem. Do ideału potrzebuje wymiany gumki przewodzącej na wyświetlaczu (jakieś 5 zł) i może lepszej baterii. Udało się bezpiecznie zdemontować jedną ze starych, będę się do Was zwracał po pewne sugestie;

- Nokia 1100 (2004), podobno najlepiej sprzedający się model w całej historii firmy. Skromna i niezniszczalna.

Jednak za 9 zł nabyłem dwie skrajnie szczurowate obudowy, jedną doczyściłem do gołego plastiku, a drugą chyba zostawię w takim śmieciowym stylu. I tak znalezienie ich graniczy z cudem.
