Car troubles!
She seems to be having trouble detecting the key?? Have tried both keys now. It is kind of freaking out... so I have unplugged the 12V battery to let the computer completely reset?? Otherwise I might be SOL. Once I plug the battery back in I will see if the voltage is low and check it with the car scanner to see if any other messages are there. Might need a tow home!

Sitting here in a lineup on #bchwy4 for some road work.

Our 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric just passed 200,000km this week! I got a snap of the odometer at palindrome 199991 which was satisfying. But a sudden snow storm/hail storm prevented me from capturing 200k and 200002 officially, but that's ok.

I just made its *first* appointment to have its brake pads replaced. Amazing longevity on these EVs for brakes. I really should have done it about 10k ago but still.

Great car. Age is starting to catch up a bit.

It needs the EV battery coolant flushed/replaced this year, and some small stuff is wearing:

The passenger side seat heater is on the fritz, and one of the door lock mechanisms is extra loud.

But all things considered, for the amount of kilometres in the past 5 years (really more like 3 due to pandemic), and the addition of the utility trailer, it's doing great! #EV #Kona #Hyundai #Electric #carlife

I rarely seek things to photograph.

As I go about my daily life, sometimes a muse grabs me by the collar, and demands and commands that I take a shot of the thing before me. I obey meekly.

This is from last week, outside The Great American Storage in Kailua-Kona.
The store owner, a smoking hot Caucasian woman with tattoos, came out and told me to get off the sidewalk. When I politely refused, she threatened to call the cops on me. I smiled, and remained on the public sidewalk ( the keyword being "public" ).

A few minutes later, she came back and threatened to put curses on me. I was not fazed.
Then, she threatened to call a bunch of Hindu deities on me ( "Kali", "Shiva", etc ).

I have never had both legal and spiritual authorities called on me, on the same day.
I was bemusedly reminded of a passage from Shakespeare's, "Tempest".

"I can summon the spirits!"

"So can I. But will they come when you summon them?"

This lady seemed to be under the impression that the deities were guard dogs on her leash, that she could sic on me, to violate my right to be on the sidewalk.

@libraries I'm giving a nonprofit some free tech consulting on a somewhat unique problem that managing a large library of so-called "dead" physical media (not books). I think an open source book library system like #Kona might be a good starting point for their needs but I don't have any prior experience with this sort of system myself. Any library techies out there who have used one of these platforms I could chat with?

2024 summary of driving our #Kona electric:

27,840 km (17,300 miles) (schlepping the kid to hockey) used 4,761 kWh of electricity. 70% was home charging, 30% on the road; total cost to charge: CAD $1,015 (US $740). Our old Subaru would have cost CAD $4,050 in gas alone over the same period -four times as much!

There were no oil changes, and with regenerative braking, the brakes get little wear. Plus it drives great in the cold and snow.

A full day yesterday. We delivered some pickled salmon to an elder at #Stzuminus, checked in on my 88 y/o mom in #QualicumBeach, went up to Mt Washington in #ComoxValley to play in the snow then had lunch at the #FannyBay Inn on the way home. Best fries on #VancouverIsland and the hazy IPA reminds me of the Hanalei IPA from #Kona Brewing Co. Heck of a day. #pnw #VancouverIsland

At the end of October last year, my partner got an #ElectricCar - and a nice one at that. We're a two-car household and live in our own flat in a small development with a 'private’ car park.

Now, there's no way to charge at home - we're too far from the car park to be able to link a cable, and the management company have so far refused to put in any charging points.

However, there are quite a few charging points nearby, and as we both work from home, it's quite nice to take some time out to go and charge the car - well, he does, anyway.

I've been noticing with my petrol car more and more fumes coming from it. I've only had it a year and a half, but I'm seriously considering swapping for an #EV. I drive fairly often to my mum, who is about 80 miles away (each way) and so I'm considering a long-range EV. My partner’s car has a max range of about 160 miles. Thinking about the #Kia #ENiro, #Skoda #EnYaq or #Hyundai #Kona. When I’m with my mum, it needs to be high enough for her to get in and to fit the foldable wheelchair in the boot - would prefer not to have to put the seats down.

Da es auf der A72 und A4 östlich von Plauen keine #SuperCharger gibt (und der leicht abseits liegende SuC an der A14 bei Nossen derzeit offenbar geschlossen ist, mussten wir zwangsweise auf allgemeine Ladeinfrastruktur zugreifen.

Und die ist noch genauso nutzerunfreundlich wir vor gut 5 Jahren, als ich das letzte Mal mit einem #Hyundai #Kona unterwegs war.

Teuer, langsam, kompliziert, ... es ist unfassbar, wie schlecht es nach wie vor läuft.

So kann man die #Antriebswende auch sabotieren.
