"[I have to miss class today, for a legitimate reason.] Please let me know if there’s anything important I should review or any materials I should catch up on."

Students, just don't. It's all important, you should review it all, and catch up on all of it. If I were covering only the trivia I have interest in, this course would be very different. (Consider taking one of my special topics!)

💻 CDE for the Modern Era 💻

I've decided to return to my roots, in some respects. Unfortunately, the Sun Ultra 60 workstation is not (yet) sitting at my desk, but I can partially relive its day to day experience of the CDE desktop by using NsCDE.

It's clean, crisp, responsive, and fast. Maybe once I finish customizing its retro-ness there will be some time for screenshots.

Now, back to eBay to find a proper Ultra 60... 😊

Way back when I was in high school, and dinosaurs roamed the Earth, a girl-fight had rules.
No hair-pulling.
No hits below the belt.
No choking.
No smearing of makeup.
No biting or scratching of eyes.
No meowing or hissing from male onlookers.
There was a code, people.
Now, it's just hair extensions and dental retainers flying everywhere, Glock 19s, and fast-food employees scrambling to call the police.

Oh! Now I get it! I've been wondering for a few years why people on social media post photos of #quotes from #books instead of more easily readable screenshots of ebooks, etc. Lots of photos of pages curved so extremely that it's hard to read the quote, or with the reader's fingers in the frame, etc. Why can't those lazy bums find a more readable shot of the passage, or just type it out? Sheesh.

But I think I get it, now: #reading physical books is considered "harder" than watching videos and more legit than ebooks. People are bragging about their Old School Toughness by reading actual physical books? I think?

My elder teen used the word "self-considerate" (as in her friend wasn't going along with what she wanted her to do but she understood that it was because the friend was respecting her own boundaries) and it is now part of my vocabulary.

I am not being difficult, I am being self-considerate.

Checking out at the grocery store and item needs a price check. Teen cashier calls over the manager (also a teen) who instead of running into the aisles to find the item whips out her iPhone and looks the item up on the store’s website to check the price. DONE.

SO SMART! #KidsTheseDays
