A reminder for the week of GTC: LLMs do not “know” anything nor do they “understand” anything nor do they “reason about” anything, because they are in fact not capable of any of those things. They are fancy predictive text completion, and that’s it; anyone claiming to offer you more than that is trying to sell you a bill of goods. Don’t fall for it.

I watched yesterday’s #NVIDIA #GTC keynote. Notably the big robotics demo failed and had to be restarted from the beginning. Still interesting (and cute!) but definitely ruined the magic trick. I get the temptation to do a big splashy live demo, especially if you have the technical muscle that a company like NVIDIA has, but it absolutely must work.

Thinking about #robot helpers after seeing a few at #GTC last week. What I’d like to see is a robot baby elephant, not a scary robot dog or creepy humanoid. The trunk can pick things up, retractable tusks work like a forklift, and baby elephants are cute.
