Ok once more. Do NOT quote Noam Chomsky to me as any kind of oracle on anything. I shall post this each time one of my followers does the "Chomsky Is a Good and Wise Man"-thing. He is not.
"The responsibility of intellectuals is to speak the truth and expose lies."
–Noam Chomsky
#Chomsky emphasizes that those who have knowledge and influence must use their intellect to challenge falsehoods and reveal the truth. Intellectuals, whether scholars, journalists, or thinkers, have a duty to question power structures and educate the public. Silence in the face of deception allows misinformation to spread unchecked.
Just ordered Noam Chomsky's "On Anarchism" while in bed.

"As long as the general population is passive, apathetic, diverted to consumerism or hatred of the vulnerable, then the powerful can do as they please, and those who survive will be left to contemplate the outcome."
— Noam Chomsky
given how #chomsky in this video talks about "the limiting effects of coercive institutions," i think it is only fair to point out how he openly supports coercion institutions inflicting violence on non-humans.
i also just think it's absurd with self-described anarchist intellectual not having the time to even think about who he is oppressing.
too many self-described #anarchists become #fascists as soon as they're asked about other animals, peter gelderloos being a prime example. they need to be called out.

Noam Chomsky, a renowned linguist, philosopher, and public intellectual, has significantly impacted society in various ways:
*Linguistics and Cognitive Science*

2. *Cognitive Science*: His work laid the foundation for cognitive science, an interdisciplinary field that studies the human mind and its processes.
*Politics and Social Issues*
1. *Critique of Power and Propaganda*: Chomsky has been an outspoken critic of power structures, highlighting the role of media and propaganda in shaping public opinion.
2. *Anti-War Activism*: He has been a vocal opponent of imperialism, militarism, and wars, advocating for peaceful resolution of conflicts.
3. *Support for Human Rights and Social Justice*: Chomsky has consistently supported human rights, social justice, and grassroots movements, often speaking out against oppression and inequality.
*Education and Critical Thinking*
1. *Promoting Critical Thinking*: Chomsky has emphasized the importance of critical thinking, encouraging people to question authority and challenge dominant narratives.
2. *Education as Empowerment*: He has advocated for education as a means of empowering individuals and communities, rather than merely serving the interests of power.
*Media and Culture*
1. *Media Critique*: Chomsky's work has highlighted the role of media in shaping public opinion and perpetuating power structures.
2. *Influence on Alternative Media*: His ideas have inspired alternative media outlets and independent journalists, promoting a more diverse and critical media landscape.

"If we choose to take seriously the overwhelming consensus position of credible climate scientists, we have to accept that climate change represents a truly existential threat to the continuation of life on Earth as we know it.
Given this reality, it is not the least bit surprising that Noam Chomsky has been committed to educating the broadest possible global audience on the basic science behind the climate crisis, the factors that have produced the crisis, and how to advance a viable path forward for reversing the crisis.
It is also not surprising that Chomsky understands the crisis as a severe malignancy of contemporary neoliberal capitalism and that, correspondingly, the work of reversing the crisis will require mass popular mobilization to defeat neoliberalism under the combined banners of social justice and ecological sanity.
Of course, Chomsky’s profoundly impactful research contributions, spanning over seven decades, have primarily covered the fields of linguistics, philosophy, psychology, and cognitive science. He has never claimed to be an expert on the technical details of climate science or the economics of building an alternative clean energy system.
At the same time, Chomsky, legendarily, is a man who “reads everything.” And he does not merely read everything. Rather, over decades, Chomsky has demonstrated a breathtaking ability to absorb a huge range of material on critically important social and political issues. He is then equally capable of explaining these issues to millions of readers throughout the world through his unparalleled combination of moral passion, rigor, depth of insight, clarity, as well as — when he chooses to unleash it — bracing rhetoric force.
These are exactly the qualities that Chomsky has brought to bear in addressing the climate crisis. His contributions are critical for understanding the crisis..."

There are no words. "Monsters" is not enough. It doesn't describe well. Neither do "evil".
#Chomsky about #Capitalism and #Family, he is right now what?
need a #newsystem that is better than the #oldsystem or #mankind is doomed
So I've read a bit of #Bookchin 's #PostScarcity (riddled with historical errors), and then a good chunk of #Woodcock 's #Anarchism (more interesting, but not convincing), and finally #Chomsky 's #OnAnarchism (the sweet spot).
Chomsky isn't dogmatic. He lives in the real world and makes pragmatic arguments. Dismantling the state is an ultimate goal, but if you go straight for that, a) people get hurt in the meantime, and b) you fail anyway. Chomsky's anarchism is what I can identify with.
1990s!!
> When I called.. the power had gone out.
> .. we’re going to be seeing more and more of that sort of thing. There.. hasn’t been much investment in infrastructure. It’s part of the drive for short-term profit.. A lot of people are aware.. a plumber.. the other day.. told us he had just bought.. a generator because he expects the power to be going off.. Outsourcing is another aspect.. saves corporations’ money today, but destroys the potential work force. #Chomsky

Never suspected I will see Steve Witkoff, right-wing #Trump diehard anti-communist speak literal #Chomsky, far-left Soviet and Russian apologist
The war didn’t need to happen. It was provoked. It doesn’t necessarily mean it was provoked by the Russians. There were all kinds of conversations back then about Ukraine joining NATO. That didn’t need to happen. It basically became a threat to the Russians.
As a reminder, no “conversations” about #NATO would ever happen if #Russia had not been threatening newly liberated Eastern European countries with return of Eastern Bloc regime all 1990’s. This was literally the only reason why these countries joined NATO in 1997-2004. It was Russia’s invasion on neutral and non-aligned Ukraine in 2014 that made it to add the goal of joining NATO in 2019. And it was Russia’s 2022 invasion on Ukraine that made #Finland and #Sweden join NATO. So let’s not mistake the cause and effect here…
Worth reading interview with Slavoj Žižek, whose view of #Russia is both distinguished by realism and compliance with leftist values so much contrasting with #Chomsky, for example:
It’s incredible to me how many pseudo-leftists are drawn to this strange fascination with Russia. Even though they admit that Putin is horrible, they still cling to the idea that Russia, somehow being less affected by Western consumerism, somehow preserves more “authentic” human relationships. For example, an idiot once told me that while the West is all about promiscuity and sexual freedoms, in Russia, “true love” is still possible. This romanticized notion of Russia is often combined with another leftist dogma: that NATO is the ultimate evil. According to this view, anyone in conflict with NATO must have something good or virtuous about them. By this logic, Ukraine is disqualified from support because it’s seen as merely fighting a “proxy war” on behalf of NATO.
