Why are tankies so blind to what they’re doing? How can they worship dictators like the Kim dynasty, Stalin, Mao Zedong, Castro, Maduro, and vanguards like the CPSU?

It doesn’t make sense, if you want the working class to be free, why are you idolizing authoritarian rulers?

What the hell is happening here? This blind devotion and cult-like behavior is downright insane.

Today in Labor History April 13, 1953: CIA Director Allen Dulles launched the MKUltra mind control program. The program ran from 1953 to 1973. It involved giving human subjects LSD and other drugs, often without their knowledge. Then, researchers would try to “weaken” their minds and force confessions through brainwashing and psychological torture. Over 7,000 U.S. war veterans were unwitting test subjects, as well as many Canadian and U.S. civilians. The program was a continuation of Nazi mind-control experiments, which utilized mescaline against Jews and Soviet prisoners, hoping it could be exploited as a “truth” serum. The Office of Strategic Services (OSS), precursor of the CIA, recruited many of these Nazi torturers in the wake of World War II to exploit their knowledge and research. MKUltra was headed by Dr. Sidney Gottlieb, who later devised plans to kill Fidel Castro with an exploding cigar, and saturating his shoes with radioactive thallium to make his beard fall out. He also tried to assassinate Patrice Lumumba, Prime Minister of Congo, with poison. Several well-known liberals and radicals knowingly participated in MKUltra and its OSS predecessors, either as test subjects (e.g., Ken Kesey, Allen Ginsberg, Robert Hunter), or as researchers (e.g., anthropologists Margaret Mead and Gregory Bateson). Others who have been alleged to have been victims or volunteers include Sirhan Sirhan, Ted Kaczyinski, Charles Manson, and Whitey Bulger.

For a really fascinating look at Margaret Mead's and Gregory Bateson’s exploration with hallucinogens and their connection to MKUltra, check out the recent book, Tripping on Utopia, by Benjamin Breen. And for a truly amazing documentary on the 1961 CIA-supported coup in Congo, check out the 2024 documentary, “Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat.” But the film is really about so much more than the coup. It covers Cold War machinations, propaganda, and covert operations in the early 1960s; the superpowers’ jockeying for control of puppet regimes and spheres of influence in the global south; the Pan-African movement; racism in the U.S., the Civil Rights movement, and the repression against it; and, of course, jazz music, including tons of interviews and live footage of Lumumba, Ghanian president and revolutionary Kwame Nkrumah, activist and writer Andree Madeleine Blouin, Malcolm X, Louis Armstrong, Nina Simone, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Miriam Makeba, John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, surrealist artist Rene Magritte.

Es wird eng in der Wohnung

Nicht jedes Rad ist so klein und einfach verstaubar, wie dieser Hingucker, den ich an der Hamburger Marzipanfabrik getroffen habe. Das Rad ist von #Castro aus Barcelona. Ein M1.

Jedenfalls ziehen unsere Gravelbikes vom Arbeitszimmer in die Garage, die wir uns mit den Nachbar*innen teilen. Um Platz zu sparen habe ich uns gebrauchte Wandhalter (3€/Stk.) und dazu diese Wandanker besorgt. Die Anker werden reversibel an die Wand geschraubt. Das Vorhängeschloss dient dann als Ring zum Anschließen und gleichzeitig als Sicherung der Schraube. Andere Wandanker sichern die Schrauben mit Stahlkugeln, die in den Schraubenkopf geschlagen werden und somit ein rausschrauben des Ankers verhindern. Das ist allerdings nicht zerstörungsfrei rückbaubar. Und nebenbei finde ich diese Wandanker - trotz des klobigen Schlosses - ganz hübsch.
Für dickere Schlösser gibt es einen Zusatzring mit größerem Durchmesser. Keine Ahnung, ob wir den brauchen, aber er war günstiger als der Versand und vielleicht bringe ich einen Anker auch vor der Tür für Gäste an. Dann ist das die Allroundlösung für alle möglichen Schlösser.

Was mir auch gefällt: ein Schlüssel für alle Schlösser.

During the #House #Intelligence Cmte hearing, #Castro asked #TulsiGabbard why #Venezuela was not included in the annual #ThreatAssessment Report. Castro cited #Trump’s invocation of the #AlienEnemiesAct to conduct #MassDeportations & Trump’s claim that he could invoke the #AEA because he believes we are at #war with Venezuela. Castro asked #Gabbard that if we are at war with a country how is it possible that they didn’t warrant entry in the assessment.

    On this day in 1926, #Cuban #Revolutionary #Fidel #Castro was born. He would lead a guerilla campaign with other revolutionaries such as Che Guevara to overthrow the US-backed dictator Fulgencio Batista. Before Cuba’s revolution, US financial interests owned 90% of Cuba’s mines, 80% of public utilities, 50% of railways, 40% of sugar production & 25% of bank deposits.

    In the first 30 months after Fidel Castro and Cuba’s communists came to power, more classrooms were built in those 30 months than had been built in the previous 30 years. Within the first six months of Castro’s government, 600 miles of road had been built across the island, while $300 million was spent on water and sanitation schemes. Over 800 houses were constructed every month in the early years of the administration in a measure to cut homelessness, while nurseries and day-care centers were opened for children and other centers opened for the disabled and elderly.

    With the arrival of the revolutionary government, Cuban healthcare was nationalised and expanded with heavy investment, bringing free healthcare access to millions. Universal vaccination for childhood diseases was introduced, leading to infant mortality rates plummeting. Cuba’s ‘army of doctors’ is now sent to crisis-hit countries around the world. Since 1963, more than 600,000 Cuban health workers have provided medical services in more than 160 countries.

    Fidel Castro’s Cuba was also instrumental in many anti-colonial and liberation struggles across the developing world, Cuba provided material support to the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. Cuban material support was also given to Angola and Palestine.

    Despite being under the illegal embargo imposed by the US, Cuba now has a higher life expectancy than the US, has more doctors per capita than the US, and is among the top 35 countries for lowest child mortality rates. Under Fidel Castro’s rule, UNICEF declared severe child malnutrition to be eradicated.

PG&E claims their work was completed under existing plan, but new venue mgmt has attempted to change plan after contract started. Either way, it's a typical #SanFrancisco sh/t show and #PowerPlay construction permit logjam.

Netanyahu has taken a beautiful and peaceful religion and has made it synonymous with #apartheid, #genocide, and #EthnicCleansing.

Children will be spitting and cursing Netanyahu's name for centuries.

Na última excavação no Castro de Pereiras (Mos), da segunda Idade do Ferro, apareceu um grande prédio, possivelmente da época romana, cheio de incógnitas.

Esta campanha está financiada pola Comunidade de montes de Pereiras depois de outra financiada pola Conselharia de Cultura.

A maioria dos restos são de cerámica galaica e só um par de ánforas romanas.
