Here's my #introduction - I'm a #DeafDisabled #dancer and #engineering #education PhD student. I'm trying to rediscover what I love and what sparks joy - #writing, #sketching, science writing, maybe my threads of interest in #cinematography and #animation that I gave up when art majors weren't approved by my immigrant family. Navigating #cancer, so I need joy and spirit and engagement in my life right now in #immunocompromised safe ways.
@mchua Mel, I hope the Fediverse offers you as much discovery, connection, and laughter as it's offered me.

And would you like pointers to help you customize your social media experience?
@brainwane I absolutely would love pointers!
@mchua Check out the public/explorable timelines of popular instances, or ones where your acquaintances are.
There are many apps; some have lovely functionality that others don't. Browse.
Timed mute, unlisted toots, and the local & federated timelines are neat to enjoy. The federated timeline has been an enjoyable fast-moving river for me to dip into & discover people/hashtags to check out.
I try to share a mix of useful, thoughtful, beautiful, & silly things.
@mchua In the comments of https://www.harihareswara.net/posts/2022/mastodon-fediverse-warning-mastodonsocial/ I mention several instances I’ve seen other people recommend/announce, or see people I know happily using; their public timelines are probably good places to visit & find people to follow.
I set up a "list" of people I personally know (a subset of the people I follow) -- folks I particularly want to keep up with. I can read that list instead of my main timeline if I'm in a hurry.
Some people prefer https://pinafore.social/ as a web interface.
