#Arctic #warming could pose a threat to America’s #security too: #Alaska may have new vulnerabilities to both #China & #Russia; changes in #ocean salinity & temp might interfere w/ #submarine detection systems; extremes of climate change, including #permafrost thaw in Russia, may drive #economic #instability, social #unrest, & territorial claims. [#Trump #Intelligence Agencies excluded #ClimateChange from the annual #ThreatAssessment report for the first time in decades — too *woke*]

Sabotage on the seabed: How can Europe protect itself?

Several recent submarine data-cable breaks in the Baltic Sea have exposed the vulnerability of critical underwater infrastructure. Russia is suspected of having been involved in the damage.

Yeah, NATO is over, when their meeting doesn't invite #mairikkka but does invite #japan and #australia, and then a French nuclear attack sub shows up in our base in #halifax.

Yup. New era. Let go of 20c, and even the 911 world order.

(Also, I didn't know anyone thought #dougford is who should be leading our #mairikkkan counterattack? He's all about him.)

US support to maintain UK’s nuclear arsenal is in doubt, experts say.

Calls by diplomats and analysts urging focus on European cooperation to replace Trident have been joined by the former UK foreign secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind, who initiated talks in the 90s between the UK and France on nuclear weapons cooperation.

But working with European states to replace it will be costly and take time.
