#introduction Hello all, Ive been on the fediverse on a number of accounts for about five years, finally it was time to make my own instance and decided on mastodon.

I mainly want to share photos I've taken over the years. I moved fully to #Linux about a year ago and its taken some time to settle and get to editing photos.

I am interested in #macro #aviation #streetphotography #pcbuild #birds #nature #bayarea #cert #sar #tech #Photo

any boost would be appreciated from my #selfhost instance

While boat drivers are labeled and criminalised as smugglers, the real traffickers, like Libyan warlord and torturer Gheniwa, who came to #Italy not long ago unscathed, or Almasri before him, remain untouched.

No one who had to pass through #Lybia and its prisons to cross the #CentralMed can deny having been subjected to systematic violence, torture, sexual harassment and rape.

How can the Italian government equate captains and the people who actually are on the boats with those who profit from their suffering like Gheniwa and Almasri? The latter take flights, sometimes state owned, their entry is accepted and their health is taken care of.

We ultimately need safe escape routes and human rights for all. Human trafficking and the criminalization of people on the move must finally be brought to an end.

Significant, generational and historic #flooding across the Ohio River Valley following multiple days of heavy rainfall and severe storms. You can see the extent of the flooding in the Sentinel-1 #SAR derived flood mapping I made in support of operations here. I have masked out normal water detection from previous Sentinel-1 images so I'm only highlighting the floods. Update on the Mediterranean Sea

In 2024, a record 8,938 refugees lost their lives, making it the deadliest year for displaced people worldwide, according to statistics published by #IOM.

The first quarter of 2025
- Italy has confirmed that the secret services used invasive military spyware Paragon #Graphite to monitor activists from Mediterranea Saving Humans and Refugees In Libya.

- Malta’s Prime Minister, Abela, said he will push to reform the European Convention on Human Rights, calling it "outdated", as he aims to simplify the deportation process for asylum seekers.

-The #EU Commission proposed the Common European System for Returns, a way to have faster deportations and "return hubs" in third countries, an indirect term for deportation centers.

- Mass graves containing the bodies of people on the move have been found in #Libya.

- The "State Trafficking Report” has exposed a human trafficking network involving #Tunisian police and military selling people on the move to armed Libyan groups and the Libyan army. All while Tunisia and Libya continue receiving European and Italian financial support.

383 missing or dead people have already been recorded in the Mediterranean in the first three months of 2025. Every single one of these deaths could have been prevented. Every single one has been accepted by the responsible politicians without turning a hair.

If a human life is no longer worth anything - what then?
Stand up for human rights for all! Stand in solidarity!

Open SAR data: Synthetic Aperture Radar (#SAR) is an interesting #remotesensing technology that captures high-resolution data of the Earth’s surface, regardless of weather or lighting conditions. This curated collection of open SAR data sources provides an...

A ham radio amateur here locally apparently fell off a trail and broke his femur (from our local radio net)

Phone did not work (out of battery or out of service).
Garmin Inreach was not charged (out of battery)
Handheld radio with GPS worked, so he was able to call out for help on 146.520 and was rescued. 😬

Well, that's definitely a lesson to keep in mind if you are e-biking in remote areas....

"According to the group, a female biker faced major complications after her e-bike battery died in a remote area. This resulted in the woman being stranded in the desert for 30 hours, pushing her bike 20 miles before she ended up being located and rescued deep in the park."

NASA-ISRO Mission Will Map Farmland From Planting to Harvest. The NASA-ISRO SAR (synthetic aperture radar) satellite will be launched soon and acquire radar over the entire land area of the Earth (except a few places near the poles). One objective is mapping agriculture. #NASA #ISRO #radar #satellite #SAR #agriculture
