#France fines #Apple €150M for “excessive” pop-ups that let users reject #tracking

France's competition regulator fined Apple €150 million, saying the iPhone maker went overboard in its implementation of pop-up messages that let users consent to or reject tracking that third-party applications use for #targeted #advertising.

How is anyone supposed to be productive in this day of endless popular on every device. Apple ecosystem here… it’s horrible these days. Time to set aside a few hours and figure out how stop the madness. VS Code and PHPStorm are two of the worst. OS is getting horrible too.

Am I the only one that wants to punch through their monitor every time this little F&^*ER pops up? Makes using 90% of the internet just hat much more annoying.

I run Pi-Hole on my home network and have UBlock and Privacy Badger plugins running in my browser. Every time I think I have it beat, it comes back a day or two later.

I am also not signed into Google on my browser at all and have removed all Google-related cookies

- "L'eau mouille. Le feu brûle."

I find it helps to #translate those #popups to "Please #disable your #adblocker so that our un-vetted executable #code can run without #permission on your computer and rummage through whatever information your browser has not sufficiently #locked it out of, and then send it $DEITY-knows-where for our #commercial benefit".

It sounds somewhat less appealing and White Knight-y then, which is probably why these sites avoid the more #truthful description.

Who doesn't love a good pop-up book; and–1 month from #ALIENDay, why has Ridley Scott's movie never had one?

The used book market doesn't often see pop-ups in working condition. This one is 100% functional with a small, unintended fold of the frontal lobe. In other words, it has minor brain damage.
