~ Fender, Sam, Crumbling Empire, 2025
IMHO, Sam Fender has released the album of the year. 48 minutes of soaring, working class, confessionals that are as joyous to sing along with as they are bleak; it is a poignant record for the challenging and uncertain times in which we find ourselves. Find it on your streaming service of choice, press play and keep your “chin up”.

People are out tonight! I decided to come out, drink a beer en terrasse and read a book, and I've got all these little slices of life. A father and son desperately trying to relate to each other, two ladies laughing, very much enjoying each other's company, a man with an Asian tourist(?) who wanted a pint, so the former replied "well we need to go over to that bar invest! They're Irish! They're beer specialists!" What an evening, what a treat!

When I was a kid, I had a Britannia in my model rail set - dad and I used to set it up and run it together, so it was even more special to see the real thing in action, with my dad that day.

I used to feel so invincible
I used to feel there was a world worth dreamin' of
Back in the Gasworks
Screamin’ the song
Just the beauty of youth Would quell my aching heart
Oh, I feel so dark rememberin'
@georgepenney I just wanted to let you know that I really love your little observations and insights into small bits of happy lifes.
I don't read all of your pieces but when I do, it gives me back some kindness I miss these days.
Suggestion: think of a hashtag to label such stories and maybe start a movement so that people like me are able to follow that hashtag for similar stories. Is there already a hashtag for it?
I'm not sure if I do have good candidates: #lifeflahes #observationstories #peoplewatching #miniscenes #scenesofjoy
