"[ @greenpeace ] gave birth to the non-Indigenous part of the modern environmental movement in the early 1970s and captured the imagination of the world by engaging in spectacular and creative actions to save whales in the north Pacific and to stop nuclear testing. Greenpeace needs to be protected in this critical moment"

The Guardian · I was an independent observer in the Greenpeace trial. What I saw was shockingBy Steven Donziger

"The verdict represents more than a financial blow against Greenpeace. It has huge and very troubling implications for free speech across the nation. The result threatens the rights of religious groups and political organizations. It implicates the rights of churches and charities. If the theory of the case stands, pretty much anyone in the United States can face ruin for exercising their constitutional right to speak on an issue of public importance"

This is (part of) why I am, and intend to continue to be, a financial supporter of @greenpeace . I'm not claiming the organisation is perfect – none is – but we need groups with the courage, resources and skills to stand up to the onrushing #Corporate #Fascist wave.

At this point, one can say that the #US #democracy is in extreme danger and if #democrats and all defensors of #humanrights don't rise like one man to stop this infernal authoritarian and dictatorial machine now, then, it will be too late for a long time and the solution will come from a general uprising that could spark a terrible #civilwar, before democracy can recover. #MahmoudKhalil #deportation #freespeach #campusprotests

The United Nations (UN) has formally intervened in the case of the Palestine Action ‘Filton 18‘ – currently on remand over their action at a UK-based Israel-supplying arms factory owned by Elbit Systems. @openrightsgroup I'd like to offer a potential solution to the issue at hand. Wouldn't it be sufficient to change the legal entity to one outside of the UK and relocate the physical hosting to another country? This way, UK law would not be applicable, and enforcement would be more challenging for governments.

In general, it's often too expensive for governments to pursue lawsuits in other jurisdictions, and local authorities are not eager to facilitate international law enforcement. I think it's worth exploring the possibility of finding someone to create a LLC or similar legal entity to act as the legal responsible party.

As I'm sure you're aware, many fellow entrepreneurs here have experience with setting up legal entities, and you could probably find someone willing to help. Additionally, I believe that many users here have experience with running servers, so it's likely that we could find someone to help with the technical aspects as well.

If someone from the UK were to approach me about setting up a company for a good cause in Switzerland, the US, or the EU, I would be happy to help, and I'm sure many others here would feel the same way. What do you think?

It keeps happening. The city illegally removes the signs (which are protected by election law), they get caught, claim it's a mistake, pay the fine and then continue doing it repeatedly.

But it's a serious offence against free speech.

I have friends in the community group. They are all volunteers with very little budget. They can't just pay for more signs and workers to reinstall them. It's super frustrating!

The Maple · City Of Montreal Illegally Seized Pro-Palestine Signs, Activists Allege“Our clients are very justified in having some very serious questions about the motivation of the city in taking down these posters.”

Today in Labor History August 4, 1792: Poet Percy Bysshe Shelley was born. He promoted freedom of speech, ending aristocratic and clerical privilege, and equal distribution of income and wealth. He was also a vegetarian, advocate for free love and an atheist, who wrote about the link between organized religion and social repression. His poems and political writings were admired by Marx, Gandhi and others. His poem The Mask of Anarchy (1819) was the first modern work to support nonviolent protest. It was recited by students at the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 and by protesters in Tahrir Square during the Egyptian revolution of 2011. Shelley wrote The Mask of Anarchy following the Peterloo Massacre (8/16/1819), when the British cavalry charged into a crowd of around 60,000 people who had gathered to demand political representation, killing 13. He was married to, Mary Shelley, who wrote Frankenstein.

The Mask of Anarchy:

Rise, like lions after slumber
In unvanquishable number!
Shake your chains to earth like dew
Which in sleep had fallen on you:
Ye are many—they are few!
