Finished "The Sleepwalkers, How Europe Went to War in 1914" by Christopher Clark.

This was a hard to read, because it's 550 pages of pre-1914 politics that led to the war.

Politics is not my favourite thing, especially in this case as like the author calls them, the sleepwalkers out of their personal & national pride & ego led people to a horror that continued again in 1939 because of their decisions.

I liked The Guns of August better.

In a post apocalyptic world, there won’t be zombies or battles for oil. Just regular people trying to let go of their past and doing the best they can to create new ways to live. Three more days for #FediHumans to get a free copy of my just released novel HUMAN. Visit bretthodnett.com/FreeHUMAN.htm and use the code ‘fedihuman’ to get your free EPUB!

bretthodnett.comHUMANA remarkable exploration of family, society, and what makes us human, HUMAN will take you from the post-apocalyptic world of the near future, to the two very different societies that emerge 15 million years later, where those few surviving individuals have evolved to become something that we might not fully recognize as human.

A view and a thank you!

While I'm not ready to be in front of the camera, here's a sincere thank you from behind it. If you like Scottish landscapes, Scottish accents, and gratitude, you'll enjoy this.

Yesterday it was the memoirs page. Today my book’s top of Bookshop. org’s *main* Biography & Memoir list.

(right next to Jenni Fagan (Scotland represent!) and a bit under Marcus Aurelius!)

No PR machine. Just people getting behind a working-class Scottish debut

If you’ve been thinking about it, now’s the time:

Now I’m off to build a wall.

So last night I finished Little Brother by Cory Doctorow, and I liked it.

At first I wasn't too keen on the main character, but then I realised it was intentional by Doctorow to set a starting point and let him grow.

And the story is fine, if a bit anxiety inducing (scary at times; because it is based in *reality*).

The last 30% was a page turner. 4/5 for me.

Who counts as human? Throughout history, one all too common thread is that groups of people often do not believe that other groups of people are also #human. If we evolved apart so that we were different species, would we recognize our shared humanity? This week I’m offering free copies of my just released novel HUMAN to the fediverse . Just go to bretthodnett.com/FreeHUMAN.htm and use the code ‘fedihuman’.
