For followers with boosts turned off, a quick reminder.
I post most of my photographs on my Pixelfed account here: @EllieK@pxlfd.ca
I then boost them on here.
So if you aren't following and want to see them, please follow my Pixelfed account!
Cheers!
The bio reads:
"I have described myself as being about words and pictures, so this account will be more for the pictures side of things.
In the past I have photographed landscapes, mostly of Nova Scotia where I live. I have also undertaken a 'flower a day' project on my website, using a vintage lens (helios-44), specifically to bring some cheer into the early days of the pandemic. Now there will be many of cats, too, mostly taken in my phone.
I hope you enjoy my photographs."

Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, Maine

This nearly 200 year old lighthouse in Maine sits atop one of the most beautifully striated rock formations I have ever seen. The seams of different coloured layers running up from the shore to the building could have kept me there photographing all day. This day, the fog of the morning had lifted giving beautiful sunshine, it had rained in the night and the pool was full, giving me the chance to get this reflection. My friend Mac (whose wife, Carol took me on my sightseeing tour) had specially requested a photo with the lighthouse reflected in the pool – an iconic shot, I’m sure, taken by every visitor to the site.

Old Cape Spear Lighthouse, Newfoundland

We didn't have a car on our only trip to NFLD, but we did manage to get in a bit of sightseeing thanks to a student of Steven's. My father's family came from a tiny community, Greenspond, but I didn't manage to get there to see it. Newfoundlanders are such hospitable, kind people, as I think many people found when 9/11 happened and US planes were forced to land in Gander airport for safety. The locals looked after everyone who arrived, welcoming everyone as if they were family.

Window in the Sky -
This shadow is from my favourite tree, currently sheltering a fox (I think) but it has housed a family of raccoons in the past. It always seems on its last legs and is almost completely hollow, but still keeps standing there.

Sometimes you can spend a lot of time driving around the area looking for good vantage points from which to capture just the right image. Sometimes you just need to look in your own back yard.

Halifax
One night, as we were driving home from Halifax and we turned up South Street, we thought there was a fire at the end of the road. The whole sky was dark except for the blazing red, with what looked like smoke pouring across it. It was quite scary and very dramatic.
In fact it was the sunset, with steam from the hospital chimneys drifting across the sky. I took this photograph through the car window and, amazingly, it does show some of the drama we saw.
I meant to post this yesterday but got distracted:
This actually suits my mood today as I managed to overcome a huge problem with banking bureaucracy in spite of the intricacies of their security systems and constant brick walls put in my way. Actually I still don't know how I did it, so don't ask. But as this has been hanging over me since Saturday, the relief is almost overwhelming.

That horrible sound when a bird hits the window. Hard! 😥😮

A hairy woodpecker.

And it's lying on the ground, and you think it's dead, then see its eye is partly open and not dead.

So you line a box with a towel and gently lie him in it in the sun and after 20 minutes you see him stand up in the box, look around then take off saying all kinds of noisy things to you! (Maybe he was saying thank you? A lot of noise anyway) and he landed in the tree, seems to be normal again.

That feels so good!

Barn, sunset, facing the eastern sky, Medford, Nova Scotia
We often cycle by this scene in the summer. To the right of here is a small inlet from the bay. I just love the colour of this barn in the reflected glow of the sunset, with those clouds above showing just a touch of pink.

Taken in February, on the 29th, of a leap year!

Our veterinary practice has been sold to the corporation. They are nice people there, I've used them for over 25 years

Three years ago Badger had to have dentistry including an extraction. The cost including tax came to just over $650.

When we took her in for her anal gland issue this week the really nice vet who examined her said she was in need of some dentistry again. So I asked for a quote which you see here. I called them, to be sure that I had read this correctly. It is a general quote, but it could be roughly $2000 plus tax. Will not be less than $1500, I'd guess. That's plus tax and roughly 3 times the bill last time.

Quite a difference from 3 years ago. And not doable, if you factor in say 3 years between these bills and 3 cats. You'd have to be budgeting $2000 a year for dental work for 3 cats.

How do people manage? 😳

Poor girl, Badger wants to know when she can take her blue collar off. Not for a couple of weeks, I'm afraid. The others got freaked out when they saw this blue thing bobbing about in the litter tray and there was a lot of growling going on until I separated them and they calmed down. Now they know who's inside that blue hood and all is okay again.

A question for those on #Pixelfed who also have an account on #mastodon :

I have had a pixelfed account for a few weeks now, where I share photos. Then I boost them on my Mastodon account. But both Steven and I feel we are getting less interest in the same type of posts/photographs this way than we did when we only had the Mastodon account. Maybe we should do it the other way around. Our posts trend there, but that's because there are so few on our server. Big fish small pond effect.

What are your impressions?

@EllieK@pxlfd.ca is my Pixelfed account.

Today Badger needs a lot of care and gentle cuddling as she has what seems to be a burst abscess on her backside, probably from an anal gland. I've sprayed it with HOCL and will make sure it keeps clean and hope it clears up over the weekend.
She likes to rest in what we call 'the cottage', which is near the wood stove and has a heated pad.
They're such a worry....

Above the Waterfall Along the Riverbank

A few years ago in the winter we took a short hike out to a local, hidden waterfall buried deep in the woods. @StevenKennard took a beautiful photograph of the falls themselves which he has posted today, my favourite image I took was probably this one, of the ice at the edge of the river, just before the water plunges down over the rocks. The swirls of colour and light in the water and on the ice were nicely contrasted.
Have a wonderful Saturday, friends.
