Been awhile since I mentioned one of these. Coming to the end of the stash, it's holding on nicely. (This is how I like to time it, not that the waiting was all that intentional!)

The white label was always more accessible and this drinks best now as a pop'n'pour. No decant. That's not to say it has no life or didn't improve in the glass--it does and did!--but it's elegance and freshness are paramount. Silky texture and lingering taste. I still like this a lot. #wine #barolo #italy

Stinco di #agnello al #Piemontese
(“”)
#Piedmontese style #lamb shank with New Year’s lentils. It’s one of our various Italian traditions, in this case attributed to my paternal grandmother’s ancestors’ region, because she was born on New Year’s Eve. (I also interned in the #Langhe & #Roero region of Piemonte, aside from Florence).

The recipe includes red wine, like #Barolo, plus a touch of #chocolate, vegetables for the stock that’s reduced to a rich sauce, as well as a small amount of honey, vinegar, tomato sauce, pepper, and juniper berries.

Lentils include a basic soffritto, pepperoncino, rosemary, and some of the lamb sauce.

#Wine is a #California vintage 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon from the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation by our local Mount Eden Vineyards of Saratoga here in County of Santa Clara, California, one of the smaller cities surrounding San Jose.

This picture was in the early 2000s in Montalcino, a big tour of Tuscany. A couple of years later, to Sicily. I came back to find a Neapolitan in my mailbox with my family's ancestral last name! I got more interested in the Italian part of my heritage. That led to becoming a dual Italian citizen.

Which brings us to now.

This weekend, the 15th anniversary! I will put the Barolo, et al, to good use.

As an Italian I am young, crazy teen years. Lookout! #italy #barolo #wine #photography

Italian resto, Barolos to match (great lamb chops!). The '97 Giacosa white label holds serve, not young any more, but with a backbone and a certain stern demeanor. The Grasso 07 is a different beast. Of course, much younger, but richer and more of a chocolate nuance. The nose seemed a little odd, but it opened nicely, developed well. It drank well too. I preferred the structured Giacosa, not as fruity but IMHO more interesting and focused. Both nice! #wine #barolo

There are so many #Italian distributors around but so many of them have good #wine ... this was from Friday when Vinifera stopped by with some oldies but goodies. This book is honestly a little weird but there are some #wines that I absolutely love in it!

This lineup alone highlights three wineries (Barberani, Notaio, and Contesa) and have some stellar wines ... plus, just look at that Polago label!

Been invited by a friend so my initial plans of wine had to adapt. I wouldn't go as far as to call this a #Barolo. It's a great #wine, with its own quirks. High in alcohol, good structure. I detect #blueberry and #tobacco. Not very deep in colour. Probably I should stop believing when they say that a wine is the X of place like the Barolo of Greece. These comparisons are never right nor explaining what they mean. #greekwine #winelover #winetasting

#PizzaFriday with a tad of moderation as I’m fighting a bad cold. Fortunately flu & Covid tests came back negative! 🙏🏻
Pizza #1 is a “Refrigerator Pizza” cleaning out the leftover roasted Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts, Mushrooms, Peppers & Oniontopped with Goat Cheese & Grated Gouda.
Pizza #2 sautéed Sweet Onions & Yellow Pepper with Sweet Sausage, Oregano, Red Pepper Flakes & Fresh Mozzarella.
Paired with a small bottle of Vietti #Barolo offering raspberry, blackberry, roses, mocha, wood spice & solid tannins.
😋😋😋
