You know we're in critical danger when the #IMF ... that very instrument of #NeoLiberalism! ... posts an article decrying the ever increasing #FossilFuelSubsidies

We need #EnergyTransition and we need it 50 years ago, but starting today is better than later. We can't afford to wait.
@michel_slm China permitted a whopping 106 gigawatts of new coal power capacity in 2022, roughly quadrupling the amount permitted in 2021, the analysis published by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) and Global Energy Monitor showed. The new generation is equal to about 100 large coal-fired power plants. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/china-unleashes-massive-coal-power-expansion-despite-john-kerrys-climate-pleas
That is a whole lot of coal. You really think they are going to tear it down in 10 years? They are laughing at the West. China intends to WIN this.
@mike805 at some point I expect a polluting tax imposed on products made with unclean energy sources.
Sure, it's unfair that Western countries has had more opportunities to pollute, but that doesn't give an excuse to use the dirtiest possible fuel knowing the consequences.
In any case, I don't think the Chinese economic miracle is going to last in the medium term so it might not matter as much.
@michel_slm We need import duties to compensate for a lot of things. Wage slavery, actual slavery (ban those if you can prove it), and pollution as well.
The "Chinese economic miracle" is indeed based on debt and fraud to an even greater extent than the Western economies. China and Russia do have the option of going back to hard power and war. I wonder if they will fight each other, or gang up and fight everyone else? Either would be disastrous from the environmental point of view.
