Artifact will become what Anchor was to podcasts, but for writers, coupled with Technorati-style web aggregation.
"The idea is to build a connective layer between writers and their readers that doesn’t limit them to just one publication platform, like Substack, and that also doesn’t just happen to work for this purpose but is actually designed for myriad other things (like Twitter)."
@chrismessina @tchambers OMG please give us #Technorati back
Cute, but yet another middlelayer play where writers don't own the relationship and the value extraction by the platform will grow as the platform does. Seen this playbook way too many times
@ryansingel @jsit @tchambers yes, but when or will writers ever decide to take ownership of their means of publication? Most don't want to have to build software just to write, nor will most readers put up with bespoke publishing platforms.
Aggregation centers power but is also useful to many parties.
