I'm disappointed.
I previously thought of #iFixit as this cool radical community-centered fixing thing, with the goals to reduce waste.
But I keep on receiving emails from them (daily?) that are all "Buy this thing you don't need and we'll throw in this other thing that you don't need for free".
It sucks and I'm disappointed.
@da5nsy They're a for-profit corporation. A private company, sure, but a corporation nonetheless.
But selling tools for repair doesn't necessarily mean that they're creating more waste, or going against their stated mission of reducing waste. Advertising their products through emails doesn't negate the positive stuff they've done, either.
@fenndev
I guess what it boils down to is that I kinda wish they weren't. I wish that they were at least a #BCorp or something like that. And I guess they generally are quite well aligned with that framework, and so it sticks out to me *more* when they do things that seem misaligned.
I'm specifically thinking about the freebies. And I'm still annoyed about their "mystery boxes".
@da5nsy Makes sense. Gotta hold them accountable.
@fenndev Do you have any idea about how to do that other than me shouting about it on Mastodon?
