Jamie Raskin is encouraging people to file Federal Privacy Act requests on their personal DOGE data. Fillable forms here:
@MichaelTBacon Just printed mine!
@MichaelTBacon @carrideen It would be a shame if requesters provided (valid) email addresses of the form
ElonMuskIsADrugAddictedFuckwit@[domain]
or variations thereof, as the destination address for responses.
@20002ist @MichaelTBacon To be clear, I think the point is to force them to fulfill the requests in this case. I'm not sure who would notice or care if there was an insult in the email address. That is, it's not like filing fake accusations of indecency in elementary schools or similar.
@carrideen @MichaelTBacon IMO one can have a twofer: force the legally required production while obliging a human—ally or arsonist—to type or at least lay eyes upon an email address that in itself is also a substantive message.
Live in their heads without paying rent, as the saying goes.
@20002ist @carrideen @MichaelTBacon And those of us with our own domains can easily create new email addresses to do this, while still filing a legal request. It would be a real shame if the government had to defend any court challenges and those emails were listed on the documents for all to see.
@Shdwdrgn @20002ist @carrideen @MichaelTBacon I'm going with "dogcatcher@" unless I have a better idea.
Edit: Briefly considered "quisling@" but decided they would not get it.

@MichaelTBacon @ramsey think would rather wait until its "done" as in admin changes again, so i wont be retaliated against (and avoid showing up on their radar if i hadnt yet)
@bobmagicii @MichaelTBacon @ramsey
That's fair, especially if you're in a particularly vulnerable group (gay, poc, Islamic, etc). Personally I'll be doing it because it's likely to either a: slow them down and thus protect others, or b: provide ammunition against them if they just ignore it all.
@UtilityNerd @bobmagicii @MichaelTBacon I also share the same concerns as Bob. I'll mull on it a bit and decide whether it's worth that risk.
@ramsey @UtilityNerd @bobmagicii
It's certainly something to calculate and that's going to be a calculation for everyone. There's also a risk in doing nothing.
@MichaelTBacon @ramsey @bobmagicii
Definitely. Waiting until the next administration probably means doing it during a Vance presidency.
@MichaelTBacon I've been suggesting that people file Privacy Act of 1974 requests for several years. (I helped write a compliance guide for agencies shortly after enactment.)
A word of warning, however. Agencies try to conflate Privacy Act requests with FOIA requests. They are different laws with different obligations and time periods. But the agencies try to pretend that a Privacy Act request is a request under the more lenient FOIA.
So do not file PA and FOIA requests together - make them separate requests under separate covers.
And hound dog the agencies to get them to comply within the statutory deadlines.
And under the PA demand the penalties should an agency (or an agency person) dally or evade.
@karlauerbach @MichaelTBacon I am writing "Privacy Act Access Request" on the envelope address block.
@MichaelTBacon Mailed mine off this morning!
