I guess the gist of it is techlords keep thinking that "community moderation" and in general "ethics" is something they can give to a computer to handle and it just isn't. It never will be. This is not something you can just magically solve.

You need quality human input at the top.

REI has stopped selling Vista Outdoor brands (Giro, Camelback, etc.) because of that company's affiliation with the NRA. Mountain Equipment Co-op followed suit. Both co-ops acted in response to member demands and petitions.

Mastadon is already restoring my faith in the possibilities of social media. Obviously a long way to go to build up the power that's remotely in the order of magnitude the Silicon Valley giants, but the discussions on social.coop are awesome.
