This Bluesky thread is wild. I use LLMs as part of my workflow, but I really *didn't* like having Gemini forced into my Google Docs, email, and everywhere else this week.

One person, who has written into their contracts that they're not allowed to use AI in their work tried to get it turned off...

Bluesky Social · Litbowl (@litbowl.bsky.social)I want to share my experience today with Google support, trying to get Gemini (their AI/plagiarism machine) turned off in my Google workspace account. That account is where I personally do all my work communication—I am an editor, and most of my work contracts explicitly ban any use of Generative AI

@dajb I found that intensely annoying, especially since I had six different Gmail accounts open at the same time, which is a lot, even for me.

I can't change my workflow at work, but at home, my workflow is Obsidian-> pandoc.

@Steve It's an incredible thing to do to paying business users

@dajb It calls to mind @pluralistic's debunking of the phrase, "If you're not paying for the product, you're the product." Here we are, paying for the product, and yet, we are the product at the same time.

@Steve @dajb @pluralistic As any psychopath would say: "Paid twice! Nice."

@Steve @dajb @pluralistic Whether you're paying for the product or not, you're probably still part of the product.

@Steve Not every implication holds true when reversed ;) @pluralistic @dajb
