This Bluesky thread is wild. I use LLMs as part of my workflow, but I really *didn't* like having Gemini forced into my Google Docs, email, and everywhere else this week.
One person, who has written into their contracts that they're not allowed to use AI in their work tried to get it turned off...

@dajb I found that intensely annoying, especially since I had six different Gmail accounts open at the same time, which is a lot, even for me.
I can't change my workflow at work, but at home, my workflow is Obsidian-> pandoc.
@Steve It's an incredible thing to do to paying business users
@dajb It calls to mind @pluralistic's debunking of the phrase, "If you're not paying for the product, you're the product." Here we are, paying for the product, and yet, we are the product at the same time.
@Steve @dajb @pluralistic As any psychopath would say: "Paid twice! Nice."
@Steve @dajb @pluralistic Whether you're paying for the product or not, you're probably still part of the product.
@Steve Not every implication holds true when reversed ;) @pluralistic @dajb
@dajb Atlassian has been doing this to me for almost a year now. :( https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Confluence-questions/How-Do-I-Disable-Ask-AI/qaq-p/2659115
@nemobis Ugh, Atlassian even without AI
@dajb Thanks to the huge efforts of the OP (and likely many others), it now seems to only require a pretty quick live chat to have the "Gemini for Google Workspace" options made available. Massive props to OP and everyone else who helped make Google buck up their ideas (slightly), and those who are spreading the message!
@dajb There was a post-chat survey; I rated the support rep highly, and used the comment box at the end to express my dismay at them having forcibly enabled these "features" - and not even given us the ability to turn them off (without going through support to have the options made available).
@nullcolaship Oh good to know thanks!
@dajb This whole fiasco is giving me Google Buzz vibes.
@davids7 Yeah, Buzz on steroids. Can you imagine being a Product Manager at Google?
@dajb I decided not to use Google services more than 15 years ago. My compassion with companies and individuals who still work with Google (or Microsoft) services and apps is very limited… you got what you had coming.
