Nightfall this evening on Byres Road in the West End of Glasgow.
Good morning, Glasgow. After yesterday's rain, there's some early morning sunshine today, and it's lighting up these blonde sandstone tenements on the corner of Byres Road and Highburgh Road in the West End of Glasgow rather nicely.
1880s townhouses on Grosvenor Crescent in the West End of Glasgow. The first occupant of the two houses on the right is listed as Mrs Arnott, a china merchant at James Dymock & Co, whose premises were just around the corner at 309 Byres Road.

The Italianate Gothic former Kelvinside Parish Church on the corner of Byres Road and Great Western Road in the West End of Glasgow. Designed by J.J. Stevenson, it was built in 1862. Since 2004, it's been home to Òran Mór, an arts and entertainment venue.
The former pathology block of Glasgow's Western Infirmary on the city's Church Street. Built in the 1890s in a Scots Renaissance style, it was designed by J.J. Burnet.
The sign for The Aragon in the West End of Glasgow. Despite the appearance of this sign, it only opened in 1970, making it one of the newer pubs on Byres Road. Before that, it was a Butcher's Shop.
I spotted this old door bell on a Victorian townhouse just of Byres Road today. These bells usually came in pairs, one for tradesmen and delivery people to call the Servants, and another one marked Visitors for those coming to see the owners. In this case, the Visitors bell is missing, but the Servants one is still there.
I only noticed this rather unusual doorway on Byres Road in the West End of Glasgow for the first time today. It's the former entrance to a restaurant and dining rooms called Dowanhill House which was situated in the upper floors of this building. The Art Deco style design suggests this entrance was created in the 1920s or 1930s and the dining rooms closed in the 1970s when City Bakeries took over the premises on the ground floor.

Another of the painted electrical boxes along Byres Road in the West End of Glasgow. In my opinion, these decorated ones look a lot better than unpainted ones.
I've not been able to track down any information about Ballantine.
I was intrigued by this door bell on Loudon Terrace in the West End of Glasgow which seems to have been altered many times over the years. A bit of digging revealed it's been there for 125 years, and bears the name of George W. Sellars, a painter and decorator who lived at this address in 1899. He had two offices, one round the corner at 355 Byres Road (now occupied by a Waterstones bookshop) and another on West George Street.

I came across this plaque today on Byres Road in the West End of Glasgow. Who knew this was home to the original Wild West? Or that it had such a colourful history?
I love the new street art decorating the street furniture on Byres Road in the West End of Glasgow. It really helps to bring a touch of colour and interest to the street.

Tennent's Bar on Byres Road in Glasgow. Housed on the ground floor of an 1890s tenement building in a space specifically built to house it, Tennent's bar is a staple of life in the West End of the city. It was created by Hugh Tennent Junior, the grandson of Hugh Tennent of the Wellpark brewery on Duke Street in the East End of Glasgow.
@thisismyglasgow I remember 50 yrs ago there was a sign fixed half way up the front elevation of the then Kelvinside Parish Church, now Òran Mór arts and entertainment venue, on the corner of Byres Rd and Great Western Rd in the West End of Glasgow. The sign was a protest indicating the height of the then proposed flyover at the top of Bryes Rd, one of many abandoned road proposals in the city. #glasgow #architecture #glasgowbuildings #church #glasgowchurch #byresroad #thisismyglasgow
This is a great and unusual-looking tenement at the top end of Byres Road in the West End of Glasgow. The roof, with its dormer windows, gives a bit of a French feel to this otherwise typical Glasgow building.

As Glasgow expanded throughout to 19th Century, absorbing neighbouring towns and villages, it wasn't uncommon to find it had ended up with multiple streets with the same name and by 1891 there were four different Victoria Streets in the city, including one in Hillhead. This no doubt cause some confusion and all four of them were subsequently renamed.
