I love the part of my Intro to Lit course where we talk about the different economic metaphors Beatrice and Claudio have for love. Beatrice says: it’s an investment and I guarantee 100% profit, 2 hearts for your 1. Claudio says: I give you my heart, and take yours in exchange, so if I find out you haven’t actually given me your heart, I’m SOL and have lost my very sense of self.
