Need some help from the blind Mac users here on Mastodon. I’ve searched on AppleVis and also done a general search on google and have sent an email to an Apple group for the blind but haven’t found anything. On my Mac Mini, voiceover will say unread for unread emails but it does not do it on my MacBook Air. They are both running MacOS 15.4.1. Does anyone know how I can get voiceover to identify unread emails on the MacBook Air? Please and thank you. #Blind #Mac #voiceover

For anyone following at home, the activity monitor is currently yellow, showing 14.25 out of 16gb memory currently used, and I'm doing nothing but having FF open, and browsing a bit.

The about:processes page shows the biggest users are PurpleAir, deck.blue (bluesky client) and vmst.io my mastodon server, but FF itself says it's only using 3GB.

I regularly keep about 30 tabs permanently open, I'm thinking this will need to change.

"Schadet Wine auf dem Mac": Open-Source-Tool Whisky stoppt Weiterentwicklung

Whisky macht es einfach, Wine auf macOS zu bringen, um Windows-Games zu zocken. Das schadet der Laufzeitumgebung, fürchtet der Entwickler und hört auf.

Nerdy question for #Firefox #Mac folks - I have a brand new Mac Mini which I just noticed is topping out its memory usage according to Activity Monitor... with "FireFox CP Isolated Web Content"

This never happened on the iMac with the same amount of memory, and same open tabs in FF. It was so bad, that trying to move a disk icon gave me the #SBBOD.

This is not the only one of these processes, and I assume it's from a FF tab, but does anyone else see this behavior? I suppose I'm going to have to delete all my tabs and add them back in one at a time... Thanks for any direction.

Hive mind: any suggestions?

On my Macbook Air, Safari has been behaving weirdly when I plug in my external monitor. Many (but not all?) of the Safari windows get rendered full-window (even though they weren't when I was only on the laptop, nor before I disconnected and reconnected).

I had suspected a bug with BetterSnapTool, which I was using, but I've deleted that and rebooted several times since.

I *think* this may have started happening at the last Mac OS update.

It's not terrible, just really really annoying. So far web searching hasn't yielded any hints. Any thoughts?

Every spring there are rumors that Apple is finally going to make iPadOS comparable to macOS.

It's not in their financial interests to do so. They want to compel you to buy both an iPad and a Mac.

It's why the iPad is still missing features taken for granted since the mid 90s.

I use an iPad for handwritten notes and for reading and annotating sheet music with forScore, an incredible app for musicians.

But if iPadOS were as capable as macOS, I would ditch my MacBook.

Today on AppAddict - Change the Location of Notifications With PingPlace - One of my favorite tech writers, Justin Pot, who publishes a lot over at Lifehacker, reviewed a new to me app today called PingPlace. If something happens on a Mac, someone is going to figure out a way to tweak it. This is my Motorola StarMax 3000 that I bought back in the 90’s. It’s one of the Mac clones from the short period where Apple had a clone program. It has the Apple designed Tanzania board that the 4400 also used. The 4400 is generally regarded as the least “Mac” Mac, so the StarMax is even less of a Mac I guess. It was my first “Mac”, and I got it pretty cheap when they were getting rid of the old stock.
The StarMax was universally criticized for its obscene noise level, and it is really is very loud, to the point of being unusable.
I’ve worked a little on mine recently.
It has two fans - a 92mm in the PSU and a 60mm in the front, which takes care of the CPU. Yes, really. 60mm.
I have replaced those with Noctuas.
Another noise source, which is perhaps even worse, is the obscenely loud OEM IBM hard drive. I have replaced it with a CF card in the back, also making getting files across easier.
The StarMax has also been fitted with a Sonnet CPU upgrade, which replaces the L2 DIMM and needs an extension to activate.
All in all, this is a delightfully quirky system.

I really, really miss the CSSEdit app from I think it was MacRabbit. Yes, there are browser tools, but they just aren't as good as it was.

There's Espresso, but it's also abandoned, I think.

Any suggestions out there for a *good* Mac-friendly CSS editor?

Anyone knows if there's an official tool from #microsoft to completely remove Office 2019 from a #mac ?

I mean no containers, no license, no Library file, no nothing.

I'm trying to install office 365 and it keeps insisting I have Office 2019 installed. I found a bash script that deletes a bunch of folders, and Microsoft seems to link to this: support.microsoft.com/en-us/of

but... really? Nothing? No "uninstall?

Today on AppAddict - Safari Extensions Worth Paying For and A Couple of Worthy Freebies - One of my current strategies to minimize the ability of tech companies, starting with Google, to use browser fingerprinting to extract information from my browsing habits involves rotating among a half dozen browsers on my Mac.
