A source I'd love to see for my research is the supposed 1890 Baron de Hirsch survey of Jewish parts of Manhattan which I'd seen cited. I tried following those citations to their origin here in The Early Jewish Labor Movement in the United States (Antonovsky and Cherikover). this itself was written a century ago so🤷inconclusive.

Tonight: I think Close Up is my new favorite jazz club. Back tonight for more crazy good young talent. Yvonne Rogers leading a great band, all original material. First time seeing Rogers (on her birthday no less!), will definitely be keeping an eye out. Lots of compositional complexity, heavy listening, and sonic warmth.

Call to boycott the Blue Moon Hotel in NYC's Lower East Side:

Blue Moon Hotel owner Randy Settenbrino defended his son, Bram Settenbrino, who filmed himself blowing up a mosque in Gaza, calling it a “congratulatory video dedicating a detonation to honor a friend’s new marriage.”

Tonight: keeping it chill with an early dose of the singular Charlie Parr. As far as grizzled folk goes, this guy is severely underrated, although Mercury Lounge pretty full for an early Friday start. Started at 7:20 on a 7:30 start time! Fine by me. Sounds so damn good, a sound anyone would love.
