Freedom Not Fear 2025: 26–29 September in Brussels

Mark your calendars for Freedom Not Fear 2025!

The annual self-organized conference on digital rights and data protection will take place

on 26–29 September 2025 (Friday–Monday).

At Freedom Not Fear, people from across Europe and beyond come together to advocate for freedom in the digitalized world, plan actions against attacks on civil liberties and increasing surveillance, and seek discussions with decision-makers.

The date has been set and volunteers have started preparing the event. We are working to find the location and sort out funding. Also, we’re looking for more volunteers to help us organize the event. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, 19 February, at 20:00 CET. If you would like to help and join this or any later meeting, or if you have any suggestions, please get in touch!

PS: If you plan to attend Freedom Not Fear, you might want to stay on 1–2 days to also attend Privacy Camp 2025, which is organized by European Digital Rights (EDRi) and others. This will take place on 30 September, the day after Freedom Not Fear closes.

Congress 'dieses Jahr ruhig angehen lassen' und irgendwie füllt sich der Terminkalender trotzdem rasant. Aber auch die Vorfreude steigt. Ich kann es kaum erwarten wieder dieses einzigartige Congressgefühl zu spüren, euch andere fantastische Chaoswesen zu treffen und immer wieder über die kollektive Energie dieses Zusammentreffens zu staunen.

Wow, #fnf24 what was that?!! I'm still kinda overwhelmed (in the most positive way) from Freedom Not Fear – which took part in Brussels last weekend. I'm so happy that everything went well, as a part of the Orga-Team, glad to gather so much interesting information and connections as a Participant of the conference, and blessed to meet so many friendly and inspiring people, during the days, and nights, too ;) Thank you ALL for creating some new hope in this dystopian Era we're going through.

We have concluded this year's #FreedomNotFear with a visit to the European Parliament. Some of the participants further used the time in Brussels to schedule individual meetings with members of the European Parliament to raise awareness about the topics we discussed during the weekend.

Tag 3 der europäischen Digitalrechtsaktivismus-Konferenz #FreedomNotFear #FNF24 in Brüssel. Für D64 nehmen Mitglieder und Geschäftsstelle teil und vernetzen sich mit Aktivist:innen aus ganz Europa.

Inhaltlich geht es um europäische Digitalpolitik, die politische Lage in den Nationalstaaten der Teilnehmer:innen und Inhalte, wie den European Health Data Space, eIDs, Smartphone-Tracker, KI und Privatsphäre und den Digital Gap. Daneben bleibt viel Raum für Austausch, Netzwerken und Skillshares.

Like any barcamp, #FreedomNotFear is a self-organizing (un)conference. However, it is safe to say that this year's #FnF24 would not have happened without @mocksita, @pneutig and Tobias. They have been planning this event for months.

Other volunteers have joined the planning team over time. If you can imagine making #FnF25 happen, do talk to them. We need you!

Heartfelt thanks go out to Lara who stepped in as a facilitator when it turned out that @wiebkehere would not available this year.
