The last vestiges of #winter will be melting away over the next few days at #ForkedMeadow #California. The current temp and overnight low is 17f but today it probably will be up in the 50s. There's a slight chance of rain or snow showers today but I doubt the meadows will pick up much precipitation.
Below 6000 feet elevation the snow is already gone and spring is arriving. Up in the high country winter will hang around probably through May or early June this year.
About a foot of new #snow fell at #ForkedMeadow #California at the tail end of the storm overnight after about 2" of rain. It's currently 13f under a clear sky.
There's a chance of snow showers the next day or so but then after that it's looking like clear spring weather.
Was this the last storm of the season?
After a bit over 2" of rain yesterday, #ForkedMeadow #California received about 2" of snow overnight. It is now 20f under partly-cloudy skies. Today the meadows might receive up to a foot of snow. The next band of moisture should arrive in an hour.
For the water year we're around 40" of precipitation. I don't have an exact number because our automated weather station has no way of measuring snow moisture so it's estimated

#ForkedMeadow has about four feet of snow on the ground now and the next storm is coming in on Sunday night with another half foot or more expected.
Currently it's 14f after an overnight low of 12f.
We picked up about 2.5 feet of snow overnight at #ForkedMeadow #California after 0.25" of cold rain. It looks like we've got another day or three of heavy precipitation before there's a break in the storm.
Maybe we'll get a march miracle after all.
It's 20f this morning at #ForkedMeadow #California this morning. There is no precipitation in the forecast for at least the next week. It looks like we'll have cold nights and above freezing days through the end of February.
#ForkedMeadow #California received around 8-8.5 inches of precipitation with the #atmosphericRiver that just finished up. There's about a foot of snow on the ground from the tail end of the storm.
That puts us up to about 27 or 28 inches for the water year. We need at least 35 inches to have an average year and we really need at least 45 inches to make a dent in the water deficit from the drought.
#ForkedMeadow #California has received about 6 inches of precipitation today so far. At one point it was raining at the rate of a half an inch an hour which is incredibly heavy for there.
It has been switching back and forth between heavy snow and heavy rain all day. Currently the creeks are at the tops of their banks and will soon overflow. The temperature is 36f at the moment but it keeps swinging between the freezing point and 37f.
#ForkedMeadow #California got about six inches of snow yesterday and overnight. This is the first moisture since December 24th. The overnight low was 26f and it is now 36f.
The weather forecast calls for snow showers through tomorrow night and then another potential storm coming in Friday night.
Hopefully we'll get a strong series of storms to get us back on track for the water year.
While Los Angeles burns, the central #SierraNevada hasn't had a shot of moisture in several weeks and at the 6000 foot level at #ForkedMeadow near #DinkeyCreek and #ShaverLake in #California has very little snow cover left. This is reminiscent of January 2018 when we were still firmly in a drought and I camped in the area without any worry of snow.
We should have a half dozen feet of snow on the ground in an "average" year and historically it would be potentially much more.
It snowed a couple inches overnight at #ForkedMeadow #California ! Yesterday it rained about a half inch before switching to snow.
The overnight low was 18 degrees after a high of 48 degrees yesterday.
There isn't anything else in the forecast for the next seven days though.
It's a wintery mix at #ForkedMeadow #California where it's currently 32f and has been since last night. 0.6 inches of precipitation has fallen since last night mostly as rain. The meadow is at 6000 feet so I'm guessing the snow line is 6500 feet.

1.65 inches of precipitation have fallen at #ForkedMeadow #California so far with the current storm system. Most was rain but there was also some snow. It's currently 32f which was also the temperature overnight.
The next system is due in with several more inches of precipitation starting on Monday.
It's cold, wet, and sloppy at #ForkedMeadow #California this morning. There's been an inch of precipitation since the storm started. It's currently 34f but it keeps bouncing between 32 and 34f. The rain is mixed with snow. About 500 feet higher it's completely snow.
There's supposed to be a wintery mix at #ForkedMeadow #California starting today or tomorrow and lasting until maybe Wednesday next week.
The current temp is 35f after an overnight low of 29f.
If the precipitation falls as rain, all of the existing snow will melt. Hopefully we get lucky and the storm is cooler than expected so that it falls as snow.

The forecast currently has rain starting Friday and then rain and snow mixed starting Saturday evening through the following Tuesday.
We aren't exactly off to a fast start on the water year in the central #SierraNevada. But it isn't quite as bad as 2018 where there wasn't any real snow in the #ShaverLake and #DinkeyCreek area until February.
