I'd never played Assassin's Creed Origins for some reason. I played Odyssey and Valhalla and loved them both. So I decided to start Origins. Found out two days later that the newest one, Shadows (set in Edo period Japan, one of my favorite time periods) was dropping the next day. I didn't want to switch back and forth so I rushed through Origins and got 100% completion in just under three weeks.

I started Shadows a couple of days ago. There are the inevitable launch bugs but I've been able to find workarounds online. I'm really blown away by how gorgeous the game is. The controls are all changed from previous games so I've got a learning curve but that's no big deal. it includes base-building, which I absolutely love. Not having a bird to spot for you takes some getting used to. I'm not terribly far into it and I'm taking my time to savor it. But it is a delight of a game and as usual the himsterical baby men are crying far too hard over things that every game has in the beginning. Mainly minor bugs.

Yep, I’ve also been spending hours lost in the world of #AssassinsCreedShadows on my PS5. I’m making very slow progress in the story but like others, I do not care. The world is so very beautiful, and the parkour-ability is so much more versatile than previous games, that I just walk around and enjoy the scenery. I barely even use my horse—I just walk around everywhere; I don’t even run.

I especially love the wind effects and how it blows objects around. It’s a hard effect to achieve, and it looks great.

I also appreciate the sound design in this game. In many places, there is nothing but natural environmental sounds to be heard. Music is introduced only to heighten story points and combat, and recedes into nothingness again once finished. Very nice.

Things I don’t like: frame rates aren’t great. Even at lowered resolution, dropped frames continue to occur. Also, the facial mocap seems quite bad, especially for a new AAA game.

But the game is overwhelmingly positive to me. Recommended!

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is probably the worst showcase for Apple. What’s the point of releasing a game on Mac, if it runs so badly on 90% of the installed hardware base?
Fun fact: the game runs even better on a Steam Deck.

Думав не брати спочатку, але взяв і не пожалкував.

Дуже непогана гра. Так, є мікротранзакції, так сжет абсолютно ніякий, і геймплей дуже репетитивний, але ж за це ми і любимо Assassin's Creed.

Можна тихенько прокрадатись в замки, вкрасти їх sweet rolls і боби едамаме, і тихенько зникнути.

Assassins Creed Shadows for macOS seems to be a performance nightmare. I also don’t get why the macOS version is not available on Steam.

What would happen if #Tencent (9.7%) ends with #Ubisoft majority.

#GuillemotFamily has 14% (€231M) of the company. Tencent requires more than 5% in shares to have more power than the Guillemot, and that means €100M at least.

The thing is not about "when", but rather "who" will get Ubisoft on the cheap. Given the current administration, Microsoft could sweep in easily, but they're not the only ones with a big wallet.

Things like this makes the difference between #Ubisoft and #FromSoftware so huge it could only be measured in megaparsecs.
