Anyone have recommendations for open source alternatives to google forms?

I need email notifications when a new form is submitted, ideally without extra configuration (baserow lets you get email notifications with zapier but I'd love to not have to fiddle with that)

To clarify: I am looking for a hosted service, a paid hosted service is good/fine

EDIT: I am going with LiberaForms, thanks so much for all the suggestions!

thanks for all the recommendations, folks! i'm going to try them all out and see if any work for me

@shauna there're lots of options for form builders. The easiest which should have the email functionality you're talking about is NextCloud forms - apps.nextcloud.com/apps/forms. If you don't have access to a NextCloud... there're at least several other very capable open source form builders. I host instances of these 4:
formbricks.com/
formtools.org/
liberaforms.org/
limesurvey.com/
but I'm not aware of any which offer a free hosted service (they might).

@shauna in case you're not aware of it, NextCloud - nextcloud.com - is a comprehensive fully open source replacement for the Google Suite or MS Office 365. It's being widely deployed in the EU to counter threats to data sovereignty and what's seen as digital colonisation by US interests.

@lightweight @shauna Nextcloud has AI in it. I feel really conflicted about that

@geolaw @lightweight

I ended up going with LiberaForms, thanks for the recommendation!

Is AI optional and easily avoidable in NextCloud?

@shauna @geolaw I haven't encountered it yet, myself. I suspect you'd need to actively add API keys to a GenAI service to incorporate it.

@shauna CryptPad Forms! It has end-to-end encryption as a bonus. Flagship instance: cryptpad.fr/form/

PS: Sorry, I'm not sure about e-mail notifications.

Thanks for the suggestion! I ended up going with something else (LiberaForms) but it's good to know all that's out there

@shauna I'm a huge fan of that entire cryptpad environment as a replacement for docs, sheets and forms, so definitely something to keep in mind!

@shauna yeah I think you just build a form in html and have them handle where it lands. Didn't know about LiberaForms will check that out too 😁

@shauna @somcak Not sure if goodforms.com will fill your needs, but they have a great dev staff. @snipe is the maniac in charge.

I work a lot with Tally forms, but it's not open sourced.

it is a hosted service and does offer self email notifications though.

Apart from that it also offers also easy integrations with f.e. airtable, zapier,...

So if not being open sourced is not a dealbreaker, I definitely recommend it.

@shauna check out vaultform.com - privacy first and includes email notifications

@shauna @mcc pretty sure nextcloud forms can do this (although it needs a nextcloud host with a forms app installed). Alternatively, if you just need a notification and not necessarily an email, maybe some form which will curl ntfy every time someone presses "submit" ?
