I'm trying to download #chrome for a relative on their Mac and it's not listed in the air store! (I've tried 3 different searches) What am I missing? Is Apple banning chrome on Mac?
Edit: thank you all for correcting me. It's always been a download. I should have remembered that...
@scottjenson
It has never been published to the Mac Store, you get it directly from Google. https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95346?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop
@scottjenson Same rules as the iOS App Store: any web view must be backed by WebKit, so Google has always distributed Chrome outside of the App Store. To be honest, I don’t get why Chromium-based Electron apps (the big one is Slack) are allowed on the store since they're just big web views.
@scottjenson my sense is that the App Store has rules that obviate (most?) web browsers. More here: https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/gcb3o/why_isnt_chrome_safari_firefox_etc_not_in_the_mac/
@boby_biq Chrome’s never been on the app store on Mac. You always had to download it.
@scottjenson I always download and recommend Brave over Chrome. (Directly from brave.com) Nearly identical to Chrome, privacy focused, and can install all Chrome extensions and themes. Not sure if Google has changed anything more recently or not, but Chrome has been known as a resource hog: https://chromeisbad.com
@scottjenson I don’t believe Chrome was ever available in the Mac App Store. Package install only. https://www.google.com/intl/en_uk/chrome/
