Without looking it up what’s the default text messaging app called on stock Android?
Please note I said default text messaging (ie. SMS/MMS etc) and stock (as in what Google Android Open Source Project and many other Google Play enabled phones run for their OS.

How are they so bad at this?
@mattl Google ties promotions and bonuses to *increases* in service usage, which incentivises starting from scratch every couple of years so someone gets to claim credit on an app going from 0 users to many users
@mattl@social.coop@directhex they should just have the phone compile a new SMS app every time the phone reboots.
