Okay, I am very reticent to pull off this particular band-aid but let's say hypothetically I wanted to replace #AWS with another managed host of some kind, mostly for low-traffic static asset/site hosting with HTTPS, and maybe periodically running a #Minecraft server or something for very cheap, maybe bulk data archiving (glacier), any suggestions for companies that don't suck or are at least less bad than #Amazon at comparable cost?
Thanks everyone who responded to my question about finding an #AWS alternative. I've investigated everyone's suggestions and crunched the numbers. #Cloudflare R2 looks to be the cheapest option (cheaper than S3 even) but I'm uncomfortable with them hosting hate speech and terror organizations.
#FlyIO/ #Tigris is the second cheapest and they seem to be on the up-and-up so I am currently evaluating them. Thanks @titociuro for the suggestion, the onboarding process has been smooth so far!
@Eliot_L @titociuro Glad to hear that fly.io apparently passed your social screen because that seems to be the most recommended one I hear about (most of my knowledge not first hand though)
@soaproot @titociuro Yeah, I think they are pretty new and small so I couldn't find a ton of info about them but I did see their "acceptable usage policy": https://fly.io/legal/acceptable-use-policy/
It's not exhaustive but explicitly calls out cryptomining and violent or harassing content as being prohibited. So it seemed good enough to me for now. It certainly seems better than Cloudflare:

@soaproot @titociuro I have to say the onboarding so far has been pretty smooth although I think you are required to use Docker to deploy apps to their cloud. You just install their CLI and you can either import an existing GitHub repo or deploy from a local folder with a few commands. I haven't played around with the server hosting piece that much though, I have been focusing on getting my S3 buckets mirrored to Tigris. That's also been pretty easy, with a few issues but no blockers.
