Great Sunday morning long read for SFans: @sfpublicpress.bsky.social on radiation experiments at Hunter’s Point. This is a return to what SFPP does best, and does uniquely: historically-informed deep dives that are neglected because not “news”.

(And apologies for the crosspost @ tag but AFAICT SFPP isn’t on here, boo.)

@luis_in_brief One of my reasons for leaving journalism was a desire to tell stories that weren’t “news.” I got pretty good at the head feint needed to make the non-news fit into the news cubbyhole, and I had editors who were sympathetic to the issue, so I always did OK. But the “news” form was ever a constraint.

@jfleck I have a rant I need to publish about that in our local news space, but I’ve been too busy to write it. Maybe I should run the draft by you to make sure it’s not unfair to the paper it calls out (which I adore and critique because I want them to be better!)

@luis_in_brief I’d love to iterate with you on this. It’s a question that’s long interested me.
