I wish that Linux were better at ejecting USB drives
Right-click > Eject
(Nothing happens)
Right-click > (Eject option is now missing)
Well fuck
Right-click > "Safely remove drive"
So uhh is this different from "Eject"?
Gnome Disks > "Power down disk"
Again, is this different
Me: Fuck it (Physically pulls USB from computer)
Computer: Lol now I'mma keep a ghost directory in your /media/ folder for that drive that you can't get rid of, even as root, and that will tell you that your disk is fucked up, even though it's fine and it'll stay this way until you do a hard reboot of your machine
Did you know that on Linux, the only way to eject a USB disk is to do a hard reboot of the entire operating system? There's literally no other way!
@researchfairy honestly growing up with floppy drives and CD-ROM drives, I'm nostalgic for media that actually ejects! if they made a USB port that could physically push out whatever was plugged into it I'd be super tempted to buy it and I can't be the only one
@technomancy @researchfairy imagines computers spitting out thumb drives
@ansate @researchfairy oh yeah and it's gotta make a little "reee-uuuu-reeeee" sound or no deal
@technomancy @researchfairy coffee shops littered with thumb drives.
Testing to see which model shoots a thumb drive the furthest.
