Byrne’s track record of treating artists fairly - generously - is at least as important as his “discovery” of hits such as For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When The Hue Gets Too Heavy and Mincemeat: The Musical. If the Royal Court are prepared to back him fully, this could be transformative for British theatre - nurturing that new generation of talent so poorly served by the system as it stands.
