Working with wood is a calming activity amidst a hectic life, and it feels good to create something that leaves a tangible mark. Carving also gives me a sense of connection to a long tradition of cultural creation through woodworking. waterbirdI have taken up whittling for the little dollhouse in the last week, after having wanted to try it for years. I am not sure what gave me the push to do it, but I have been having quite some fun. cetanLast weekend the family started an interesting new project together. We started learning how to whittle by carving our own wooden spoons! I purchased some roughed out blanks of an easy-to-carve wood and a couple small whittling knives including a hook knife for carving the bowl. We spent about 2 hours together on the porch learning.
