Carlton CarnivoresNepenthes gracilis, a clone I’ve nicknamed “Shadow.” A widespread and variable species found throughout much of Southeast Asia, typically producing small pitchers on long tangled vines. This one originated from Bornean parentage, and is one of the coveted “black” variants; lower pitchers get deep purple to almost black, spotted with a couple shades of lighter purple that make a dappled shadowy appearance, and even the leaves flush with purple. Uppers like this image are paler, but still that mottled purple-black color overall.<br>
