ChevI'm in the process of rereading this series. I started and finished Winter's Passage (book 1.5, a novella you don't HAVE to read) yesterday and read the first chapter of The Iron Daughter before bed. This book has a scene I love (and hate) and think about frequently. I know it's gonna tear my heart out to read it, but I have a visceral NEED to have my heart ripped to shreds by a book.<br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/theironfey?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#theironfey</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstodon?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstodon</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readersofmastodon?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readersofmastodon</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readersofpixelfed?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readersofpixelfed</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/juliekagawa?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#juliekagawa</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/fantasy?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#fantasy</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/romance?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#romance</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/youngadult?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#youngadult</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/enemiestolovers?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#enemiestolovers</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/princeash?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#princeash</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/meghanchase?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#meghanchase</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/romantasy?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#romantasy</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/faeries?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#faeries</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/tirnanog?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#tirnanog</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/thenevernever?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#thenevernever</a>

Wordy Words on WordsYou know what? Let’s go back to the beginning. To Fear Street #1.<br> <br> I keep getting thrown with the Columbo/Law &amp; Order: CI openings where a crime is committed by SOMEONE and then the story actually starts, but it’s fine. I like Columbo and I LOVED CI.<br> <br> I will say that a common critique you’re going to hear from me is a plot driven by poor communication. It’s a pet peeve of mine and just lazy writing. It’s also all OVER the Fear Street series.<br> <br> Anyway, this book centers around a kid in high school who falls in love with the new girl, Anna. It IS a little strange that none of his friends know who she is, has her in their classes, and everyone that DOES know Anna insists that Anna…<br> <br> Is dead.<br> <br> I looked this up on Wikipedia to make sure I remembered the plot since I read this a couple years ago and it says that the boyfriend was convinced she was alive with her “human-like kisses.”<br> <br> I literally laughed out loud.<br> <br> Anyway, it turns out “Anna” isn’t Anna at ALL and she’s actually WILLA, Anna’s sister who killed Anna out of jealousy and assumed her identity. There’s a brother, Brad, and he plays a pretty important role. He shoved a girl down some stairs and I think he even killed a cat to stuff in a locker as a warning, but I don’t care about him.<br> <br> My mind got snagged HARD on the idea that a teenage girl killed her teenage girl sister and just ADOPTED her personality. Where were her parents? Where was Brad? Why had nobody heard of Anna? Why is Willa going to school?<br> <br> I just think that if you’re going to murder a sibling and assume their identity, high school years are the WORST years to do it.<br> <br> That said, it was fun to re-read and still way better than Goosebumps.<br> <br> I’m excited for the next one.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/books?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#books</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookrecommendation?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookrecommendation</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booktok?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booktok</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagram?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagram</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagrammer?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagrammer</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booksky?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booksky</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readersofpixelfed?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readersofpixelfed</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/read?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#read</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readinglog?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readinglog</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/rlstine?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rlstine</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/rlstinebooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rlstinebooks</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/fearstreet?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#fearstreet</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/fearstreetbooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#fearstreetbooks</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/rlstinefearstreet?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rlstinefearstreet</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/horror?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#horror</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/horrorbooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#horrorbooks</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/thriller?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#thriller</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/yathriller?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#yathriller</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/yahorror?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#yahorror</a>
Kels ☀️4⭐️<br> <br> Emily Henry delivers a charming read with Book Lovers, featuring outstanding banter and deep character connections. While marketed as a romance, the heart of the story lies in Nora’s relationship with her sister, Libby, adding depth beyond the love story with Charlie. Nora &amp; Charlie's dynamic isn’t quite rivals-to-lovers but rather two ambitious people who misjudged each other. Henry’s writing is fantastic, making this a well-rounded and enjoyable book.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookfed?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookfed</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookreview?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookreview</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booklovers?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booklovers</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/emilyhenry?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#emilyhenry</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readersofpixelfed?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readersofpixelfed</a>
Wordy Words on WordsIt’s super interesting to read a philosopher’s take on how he thought Covid would impact our culture as a whole.<br> <br> He was wrong, but I think we all were. I distinctly remember thinking that Covid could - for all the heartache and death it brought with it - also bring a reframing of our lives and a refreshed priority list to all of us. We could really take a moment and breathe for a bit, look around, and evaluate whether we as a society are okay with the grind that is modernity.<br> <br> Turns out yes, people were okay with it. Well. Rich people were okay with it. As so often happens, the curtain lifted a bit to show that that so-called “unskilled labor force,” is actually holding up civilization while the rich just pretend to do important things.<br> <br> At this point, Covid feels like a wasted opportunity to right an awful lot of wrongs.<br> <br> Edit: I wrote the above in 2022 and I feel like I’ve just gotten more radicalized year after year from my disappointment in all of us as a society. We could have done so much. We could currently be in such a better place. But no, the workforce was forced to cave to the rich, showing their trick of limiting wages to barely livable also meant that nobody had the opportunity to reject the systems that they set up.<br> <br> We were set up, exploited, and manipulated and words cannot express just how fucking angry I am about the whole thing because now there are ZERO silver linings or redeeming values to Covid19. Just a whole lot of unnecessary death and tighter grip on the people by corporations and billionaires.<br> <br> It kills me, man. I’m not even kidding. I hate it and it breaks my heart every. single. day.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagram?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagram</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/book?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#book</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/books?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#books</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookreview?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookreview</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookrecommendation?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookrecommendation</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookrecommendations?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookrecommendations</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booklover?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booklover</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booknerd?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booknerd</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookaddict?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookaddict</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/read?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#read</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readmore?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readmore</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readmorebooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readmorebooks</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/reader?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#reader</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/constantreader?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#constantreader</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/philosophy?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#philosophy</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/slavojzizek?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#slavojzizek</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/covid?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#covid</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/pandemic?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#pandemic</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/covidbook?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#covidbook</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booksky?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booksky</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readersofpixelfed?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readersofpixelfed</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/read?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#read</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readinglog?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readinglog</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/covid19?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#covid19</a>
Wordy Words on WordsNope. Hated it.<br> <br> I think my biggest problem with it comes from the complete and total mismatch of title and story.<br> <br> Is someone invisible? Yeah. But they’re a stranger, not the protagonist’s best friend and that is half the friggin’ title.<br> <br> Also, bro, you can’t pull the same twist ending this close together because it’s basically the same thing as the Blob book and there was ONE book between those.<br> <br> Considering that these were coming out roughly on a monthly basis that’s either lazy writing where you don’t remember your own stuff or completely dismissive of the reader’s ability to remember.<br> <br> And that last one should never have entered the equation because fans were ADAMANT. I remembered details into my college years because I read the SHIT out of them as a kid. Multiple re-reads and I wasn’t even close to the only one. Once these started to get traction with kids, suddenly the corridor at my primary school where I would read on recess and lunch breaks (where I’d be protected from that goddamn burning ball in the sky) had more and more kids sitting next to me, reading Goosebumps and passing books between each other.<br> <br> Over and over.<br> <br> If Stine ever thought we couldn’t remember details like the FUCKING END OF THE BOOK, he was insane.<br> <br> Either that, or the alleged ghostwriter didn’t get the memos about other books and this was a sheer coincidence.<br> <br> But even then, which of these shitty options would be preferable?<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/books?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#books</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookrecommendation?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookrecommendation</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booktok?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booktok</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagram?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagram</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagrammer?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagrammer</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booksky?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booksky</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readersofpixelfed?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readersofpixelfed</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/read?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#read</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readinglog?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readinglog</a>
Wordy Words on WordsI’m calling it: this is my favorite Goosebumps book of all time.<br> <br> I can say this with confidence since I’m reposting all of these from IG until I catch up to where I’m at now in my reading. I’ve read the rest. This is my favorite.<br> <br> The story centers on a young writer banging out stories on a magic typewriter and I can tell you why I liked this so much:<br> <br> 1) I love typewriters. Always have. I have three now and need two more before I call my little collection complete (a Hermes 2000, perhaps with a German keyboard so I can keep practicing my Deutsch and an Olivetti because that’s what “Richard Bachman” used). The steady click clack sounds cool to me and when I’m writing, the tactile feels and loud sounds are inspiring. I want to hear more and to do that I have to write more.<br> <br> 2) I was absolutely that kid. Not with a typewriter - my parents hopped on the computer train pretty early - but writing. I wrote ALL the time. I still write. I’m working on a second-chance romance right now and it will be my fourth book. I don’t publish them - they’re just fun to write and I’ve been doing this since I was nine or so.<br> <br> So this book could have done anything and I would have still been onboard with it. As it is, the magic typewriter makes everything the kid writes actually happen and hijinks definitely ensue. It’s a fun, fast-paced story and once it gets rolling, it gets pretty exciting.<br> <br> Out of the whole series, this is the one I want a hard copy of the most.<br> <br> Also, if you’re looking for an affordable, reliable, fairly indestructible typewriter, look for a mid-1950s Silent Super from Smith Corona. I’ve dragged mine around the world in my checked luggage (in its case) and it’s fine. Can’t recommend it enough.<br> <br> If you’re more into apps, check out Hanx Writer for simulated typewriter typeface and sound goodness.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/books?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#books</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookrecommendation?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookrecommendation</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booktok?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booktok</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagram?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagram</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagrammer?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagrammer</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booksky?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booksky</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readersofpixelfed?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readersofpixelfed</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/read?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#read</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readinglog?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readinglog</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/typewriter?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#typewriter</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumps?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumps</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumpsbook?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumpsbook</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/hanxwriter?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#hanxwriter</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/tomhanks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#tomhanks</a>
Wordy Words on WordsI cannot put into words my dread at knowing I would need to eventually read this book. The cover and title are memorable and I remember thinking “ugh, so that’s Goosebumps now, eh?” as a kid.<br> <br> I wasn’t stoked.<br> <br> But then I read it and yeah, it’s just as dumb as you think it would be. A girl is slowly turning into a chicken after upsetting the neighborhood witch.<br> <br> The only entertaining thing about it is that RL Stine has often been called a reader’s stepping stone (one place called him a training bra which is just hilarious) to Stephen King and I don’t think either party liked that. It’s very dismissive of Stine’s work and King had a character call Goosebumps dumb in “Fairy Tale.”<br> <br> And THIS book is Stine actually taking a swing at being “inspired” by a King book and reworking it to be a Goosebumps book.<br> <br> The King book? Thinner.<br> <br> So does that make this fanfic? Or is there a better term? Perhaps a more nefarious term? Because as it stands right now it feels like parody more than anything else. If Mad Magazine took on Thinner, it would probably be this book.<br> <br> So it’s entertaining to see Stine try to boil down a full-length novel about racism, classism, the justice system, and a failing marriage into a children’s book.<br> <br> Obviously it’s not going to be a success but damn it, I enjoyed seeing him try.<br> <br> When King’s Under the Dome came out, it really freaked me out. Not the story, but the fact that so many people lost their minds and followed a madman just because he had charisma. Wordy Words on WordsI am forty-one. Okay? Fully grown, husband, father, about to wrap up his first career, and old enough to get freaked out and buy a red convertible.<br> <br> A Miata. Cool car but Jesus, get used to buying batteries.<br> <br> I say that because the next part sounds a little kooky:<br> <br> I thought this one was a little spooky.<br> <br> I don’t mean the actual story, but little details here and there. The cold is scary because you can’t go far from your threat. Snowmen are NOT scary, but I think ANYTHING where everything is pointed the same way or doing the same thing is SUPER creepy. When I drive (in my Miata) past a pasture with sheep and they’ve all got their heads down eating, I like HARD for one to lift their head.<br> <br> I don’t know. Call it a quirk.<br> <br> So these little details kinda creep me out. Cold, snow, uniform snowmen, a town of suspicious locals, all of this is creepy.<br> <br> But then the last half of the book happens and we’re back to a silly book.<br> <br> This is one of those books where a different author could take these bones and make a FAR different book. A far SCARIER book.<br> <br> Actually, I think this book might have a practical purpose. You could give this to an aspiring horror writer and ask them to take the bones and make their own story. Every writer would take it somewhere new but these bones hold a lot of promise.<br> <br> It’s a good start, a disappointing end, and a whole lot of promise.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/books?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#books</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookrecommendation?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookrecommendation</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booktok?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booktok</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagram?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagram</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagrammer?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagrammer</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booksky?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booksky</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readersofpixelfed?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readersofpixelfed</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/read?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#read</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readinglog?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readinglog</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/rlstine?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rlstine</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/rlstinegoosebumps?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rlstinegoosebumps</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumps?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumps</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumpsbooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumpsbooks</a>
Wordy Words on WordsThis is an interesting book, not especially because of the actual plot but because of the protagonist.<br> <br> EVERYONE hates the protagonist.<br> <br> Stine’s no stranger to writing the bullied, but this one is WILD. Even the TEACHERS are getting in on it.<br> <br> In a Goosebumps book. Sold by Scholastic. At school book fairs.<br> <br> (Ah, remember school book fairs? That’s a high I’m still chasing.)<br> <br> You would think that by now (and so close to the end of the original Goosebumps run), Stine would be leaning into tropes that would make him less of a target from parents. He pretty regularly writes parents in this series as either nonexistent or neglectful but… I don’t know. It feels like a strange choice to reinforce the idea that even teachers can’t be trusted to be good people in an era when we were (I was, at least) CONSTANTLY told that your teacher can and should be trusted with any dark shit you can’t tell anyone else.<br> <br> As for the story, it’s okay. Everyone hates this kid, this kid decides to play the weakest prank ever concocted (it’s so weak that you can kind of see why the teachers hate him), and hijinks ensue when it backfires on him.<br> <br> It feels pretty standard by now but I’ll be honest: this series is wearing a little thin with me and I’m looking at the few I have ahead of me and I’m getting pretty excited to move on.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/books?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#books</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookrecommendation?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookrecommendation</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booktok?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booktok</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagram?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagram</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagrammer?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagrammer</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booksky?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booksky</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readersofpixelfed?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readersofpixelfed</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/read?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#read</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readinglog?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readinglog</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumps?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumps</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumpsbooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumpsbooks</a>
Wordy Words on WordsI always wondered how long it would take until we got to vampires. They’re classic!<br> <br> Why did it take so long? Probably because vampires and blood - a Goosebumps no-no - go hand in hand.<br> <br> Or at least they DID.<br> <br> Enter vampire breath. Apparently that’s what keeps vampires alive in Stine’s child reader world and, wouldn’t you know it? Some kids have the last bottle of it and this book VERY quickly descends into another chase story.<br> <br> One WAY slower than the monster in the house one.<br> <br> I don’t know. This feels weird for me. While my parents were beyond cautious when it came to actual horror, by the time I was reading Goosebumps I had seen vampires or Dracula in all sorts of iterations. I saw a bunch of blood. I knew it came with the territory and I am GENUINELY curious if any kid - ever - that was Goosebumps age had never heard the basic rules of vampires.<br> <br> This was fine, but I’m kind of protective of vampires and don’t usually enjoy seeing them served as more silly (or, worse, shiny) than acknowledging the horror of their very nature.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/books?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#books</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookrecommendation?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookrecommendation</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booktok?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booktok</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagram?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagram</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagrammer?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagrammer</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booksky?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booksky</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readersofpixelfed?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readersofpixelfed</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/read?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#read</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readinglog?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readinglog</a>
Caera ThorntonI’ve been saying for years that the evils in American society, especially in regard to racial injustice, can be traced back to greed. Dr. Foley takes that statement and backs it up more succinctly and factually than I have ever managed. A quick and informative read, “The Anti-Greed Gospel” is an essential addition to the library of every activist fighting for social and racial justice. <br> <br> Description: A copy of Dr. Foley’s “The Anti-Greed Gospel” rests on Caera’s desk. Wordy Words on WordsI read a thing in the internet that talked about hyper-fixation and neurodivergent people and, honestly, it sounded a lot like me. I’ve never been tested for it, but my oldest popped up out of the blue and said they think this might be a thing and sent me the information.<br> <br> It was super interesting to me because I was raised being called “fickle,” and tough to buy presents for because nobody would know what I would be obsessed with come Christmas.<br> <br> And make no mistake: I get obsessed with things.<br> <br> I don’t think that Stine is in the same boat or anything, but I do think it’s entertaining to see him slide into something he obviously enjoys and work it out of his system through a few books. It’s like he accidentally stumbles onto something and goes “oh, YEAH!” and then builds the next few books around that thing until he gets bored or finds something new to focus on.<br> <br> This is assuming he wrote them in the same order they were published.<br> <br> You could see this start with Beast From the East (admittedly with a break for Say Cheese and Die Again) where Stine was really leaning into quick stories that focused on excitement rather than trying to build a creepy story.<br> <br> This is just fun stuff.<br> <br> Also, I realize it sounds like I’m throwing shade, but I’m not. While *I* am the type of guy that could easily look forward to a creepy monthly novella, I imagine that there are WAY more people who would appreciate the variety in this series. It’s almost a service to kids to remind them that there are more worlds out there that are fun to read than just horror.<br> <br> Even if it is a little goofy.<br> ———<br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/horrorbooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#horrorbooks</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/horrorbookstagram?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#horrorbookstagram</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readmore?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readmore</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readmorebooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readmorebooks</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readmorehorror?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readmorehorror</a> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumps?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumps</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumpsbooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumpsbooks</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumpsseries?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumpsseries</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagram?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagram</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/book?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#book</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/books?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#books</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookrecommendations?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookrecommendations</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booklover?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booklover</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookaddict?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookaddict</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookaholic?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookaholic</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/constantreader?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#constantreader</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/horror?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#horror</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/rlstine?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rlstine</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/rlstinebooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rlstinebooks</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/rlstinegoosebumps?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rlstinegoosebumps</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/spooky?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#spooky</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/spookybooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#spookybooks</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookrecommendation?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookrecommendation</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booktok?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booktok</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagram?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagram</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagrammer?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagrammer</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booksky?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booksky</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readersofpixelfed?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readersofpixelfed</a>
Wordy Words on WordsThis one’s pretty simple: kids visiting their relatives wake up to discover that they are alone, locked inside the house, and there’s a monster.<br> <br> The rest is them scrambling to survive.<br> <br> Goosebumps is - brace yourself - a children’s series so if you go in as an adult expecting an adult’s breakneck thriller, you’ll be disappointed.<br> <br> But if you try to remember yourself at 8 or 9 and read it through that lens, this is probably the fastest, most thrilling book in the series.<br> <br> I mean, your options are so very, very few considering you’re locked inside a house and not, say, a theme park or on an island or something.<br> <br> It was good. It was good and, just like the last one, doesn’t really fit in with the rest of the series which makes me suspicious if Stine actually wrote it. There were an awful lot of rumors circulating at this point and Scholastic even brought him to court on accusations of using ghost writers. Some writers have come forward and said that they wrote X many Goosebumps books but the NDAs forbid them to say WHICH ones, so we may never know.<br> <br> I can’t wait for that NDA to expire, though. I want to see which of my top 11 Goosebumps books were actually written by Stine.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/books?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#books</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookrecommendation?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookrecommendation</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booktok?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booktok</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagram?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagram</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagrammer?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagrammer</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booksky?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booksky</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readersofpixelfed?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readersofpixelfed</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/read?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#read</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readinglog?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readinglog</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumps?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumps</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumpsbooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumpsbooks</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/ghostwriters?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#ghostwriters</a>
Wordy Words on WordsOkay, I know I have ripped on a lot of these books and will continue to do so when they’re written poorly but this…<br> <br> This might be my least favorite Goosebumps book of all time.<br> <br> The story centers on two kids and one is getting skinny and the other is getting fat.<br> <br> That’s the king and short of it. The protagonist is the one getting fat and the book is all about the horror of obesity.<br> <br> And it’s about as sensitive as you would expect a Goosebumps book to be.<br> <br> Now, I will admit that I’ve always been a sensitive guy but I think even the most “shit rolls off my back,” kind of kid who is overweight could read this book and be crushed that being like them is the scary part of this book.<br> <br> The HORROR of this story is just getting fat.<br> <br> I can’t fuckin’ believe it. The agent should have put a stop to this, the editor should have put a stop to this, Scholastic, a children’s publishing house with enough brains that you would THINK they might realize that putting out a book about how being fat is scary might not be the best thing to release into the world specifically targeted at CHILDREN.<br> <br> Also, it feels like a riff on Stephen King’s “Thinner,” but not in a good way (and not the last time, either).<br> <br> This one was tough to get through.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/horrorbooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" Wordy Words on WordsWoof.<br> <br> Anyone read Calvin &amp; Hobbes growing up? I swear to god, it’s that comic that has shaped who I am more than anything - especially with the joke of taking trivial things way too seriously.<br> <br> Anyway. In it, Calvin and stuffed tiger, Hobbes, occasionally play a game called Calvinball and it is sheer insanity. Rules are made up on the fly, there’s no way of keeping track of anything, and winning has more to do with convincing someone you’re right about why you got a billion points than actually getting said points.<br> <br> It’s bullshit. Chaos. But that’s the joke. This is a game that a child would make up.<br> <br> This entire book is basically one game of Calvinball. Fast, perhaps exciting, but not awesome if you’re looking for anything else.<br> <br> Nothing makes sense, the rules of the game that were suddenly dropped into are delivered as they are needed for the plot (or “plot” if you prefer), and it ends abruptly.<br> <br> It’s just not a good entry.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/books?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#books</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookrecommendation?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookrecommendation</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booktok?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booktok</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagram?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagram</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagrammer?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagrammer</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booksky?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booksky</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readersofpixelfed?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readersofpixelfed</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/read?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#read</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readinglog?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readinglog</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumps?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumps</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumpsbooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumpsbooks</a>
Wordy Words on WordsThis is one of the good ones! The story centers on a kid that finds a weird egg during an egg hunt. The egg eventually hatches and a yellow goo-monster comes out.<br> <br> The kid wants to figure out what the goo monster is so he takes him to a science lab where the scientist says these eggs have been popping up and he’s been keeping them in a cold room so they can stay alive because the heat would kill them.<br> <br> Which… fine. Goo monsters. Got it.<br> <br> But then the scientist says he won’t let the kid leave because he wants to study him.<br> <br> The scientist kidnaps the kid!<br> <br> The kid’s dad shows up looking for him but the scientist says no, he hasn’t seen any kids recently.<br> <br> The scientist eventually says he hasn’t decided to kill the kid, the goo monsters attack the doctor, the kid escapes, yadda yadda yadda.<br> <br> Then the obligatory twist ending that takes all the fear away and bing bang boom: the story. <br> <br> I liked this one a lot. A whole lot. I hated the twist ending, but I thought Stine did a great job of leaning in on a genuinely scary idea (kidnapping, and not in a particularly fantastic way but just being kidnapped and held by a random adult) without making it TOO scary for the kids.<br> <br> But I could have absolutely seen him throw caution to the wind and write a story that gave kids way more than just goosebumps with this. If he had taken just a couple things out of this story, extended the timeline, and gave in to a writer’s cruelty they usually have at their disposal (and then not released it in this series), this book could have been fucking terrifying to kiddos just by focusing on being kidnapped, alone, and uncertain about your future.<br> <br> Even as it is, though, it was still nice to read something with such wild (and close) potential.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/books?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#books</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookrecommendation?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookrecommendation</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booktok?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booktok</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagram?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagram</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagrammer?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagrammer</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booksky?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booksky</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readersofpixelfed?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readersofpixelfed</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/read?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#read</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readinglog?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readinglog</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumps?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumps</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumpsbooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumpsbooks</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumpsbook?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumpsbook</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/rlstine?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rlstine</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/rlstinebooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rlstinebooks</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/rlstinebook?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rlstinebook</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/rlstinegoosebumps?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rlstinegoosebumps</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/horror?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#horror</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/childrenshorror?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#childrenshorror</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/horrorbook?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#horrorbook</a>
Wordy Words on WordsI get the feeling that the cover artist was given the briefest of descriptions for these books. Snowman of Pasadena didn’t have a rampaging beast and this book didn’t have an evil rabbit.<br> <br> Or, at least not a traditionally evil rabbit. The rabbit is the protagonist’s little sister who was turned into a rabbit and the rest of the book is him trying to find a cure.<br> <br> But I really liked this book for nostalgia’s sake. I used to be really into magic tricks. I watched every televised special, read every library book (and they get weird. One made sure to emphasize that magic tricks are just TRICKS and I am never EVER to say I’m a wizard, warlock, or witch, because those are real and real servants of Satan. What a weird book to be in an elementary school library), and hassled my folks to take me to magic shops.<br> <br> I bought linking rings. I got a magic set for my birthday. I learned card tricks. There was this really easy trick that I would do for folks that would blow their minds (making a coin disappear from under a cloth in my hand) and nobody could figure out how I did it. Only a friend’s mom and I knew in our groups of friends and family.<br> <br> I was never super good at magic or anything, though. My tricks were basic and all sorts of people say they don’t like magic. It fell away as I got older. I still like watching some specials, though there was something special about the 90s where the whole country would stop what they were doing to see if David Copperfield could really make the Statue of Liberty disappear. <br> <br> Now, I think we’ve become too jaded as a society. Too many people who don’t want to feel had and unwilling to be awed by anything.<br> <br> It’s a bummer.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/horrorbooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#horrorbooks</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/horrorbookstagram?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#horrorbookstagram</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readmore?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readmore</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readmorebooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readmorebooks</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readmorehorror?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readmorehorror</a> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumps?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumps</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumpsbooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumpsbooks</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/goosebumpsseries?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#goosebumpsseries</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookstagram?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookstagram</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/book?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#book</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/books?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#books</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookrecommendations?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookrecommendations</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booklover?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booklover</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookaddict?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookaddict</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/constantreader?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#constantreader</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/horror?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#horror</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/rlstine?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rlstine</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/rlstinebooks?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rlstinebooks</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/rlstinegoosebumps?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rlstinegoosebumps</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/spooky?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#spooky</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/read?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#read</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/bookrecommendation?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#bookrecommendation</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/booksky?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#booksky</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/readersofpixelfed?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#readersofpixelfed</a>
