Abishek Muthian<p>I have a Node RED flow in my Home Assistant to restart my shitty modem when it hangs and there's no Internet.</p><p>Today the Node RED it self crashed and failed to restart and when the modem hanged I had to ask my someone to restart the modem manually.</p><p>Now I have to figure out a way to restart the service which is supposed to restart my modem.</p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/homeassitant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homeassitant</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/automation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>automation</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/nodered" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nodered</span></a></p>
Daniele Verducci 🧉There wasn't any power source in the <a class="hashtag" href="https://social.ichibi.eu/tag/breaker" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#breaker</a> / <a class="hashtag" href="https://social.ichibi.eu/tag/counter" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#counter</a> box, so I had to add an outlet to power the <a class="hashtag" href="https://social.ichibi.eu/tag/homeassitant" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#homeassitant</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://social.ichibi.eu/tag/glow" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#glow</a> . I took the power from the nearest distribution box so it is a little cleaner. Unfortunately I didn't have new outlet frames, so I had to reuse an old (and very ugly) one.
Jeff Noxon<p>The smoke detectors in our house are extremely close to the end of their service life, and I’d really like smart detectors. I live in an older home and the existing detectors are battery powered and not hardwired.</p><p>It appears there hasn’t been any innovation in that space in the last ten years. Nest Protect was trash to begin with, and has somehow become worse in the intervening years while also somehow maintaining its status as cream of the crap.</p><p>It seems like my best option is getting detectors that work with my Elk M1 alarm system, and bringing them to Home Assistant and HomeKit through that integration?</p><p><a href="https://noxon.cc/tags/HomeAutomation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HomeAutomation</span></a> <a href="https://noxon.cc/tags/HomeAssitant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HomeAssitant</span></a></p>

From where it gets backed up to the cloud with all the other data on the PC which I'm doing anyway, no separate cloud account needed just for <a href="https://c.im/tags/HomeAssistant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HomeAssistant</span></a>. And all encrypted anyway, so no separate encryption system needed just for <a href="https://c.im/tags/HomeAssistant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HomeAssistant</span></a> (I hope the new encryption feature can be turned off so that I don't have yet another key/password to manage or lose!)</p><p>Which all works fine ... except when I'm away from home and have taken the desktop with me (yes, weird, eh?) and I'm not exposing the Samba share over the internet.</p>

bazpoint<p>To begin the new year, I've been getting started with Home Assistant. It's a bit like taming a wild bear to be your personal pet.... you know that if/when you're ever done you'll have something incredibly powerful, but the process to get there is probably gonna be extremely painful if it doesn't outright kill you.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.me.uk/tags/HomeAssitant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HomeAssitant</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.me.uk/tags/SmartHome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SmartHome</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.me.uk/tags/HomeAutomation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HomeAutomation</span></a></p>

SP⟁CED GO⟁T<p>So I've been doing some looking around trying to find privacy focused security type cameras for home. Ones that allow for all local (no cloud) setup and use. Integrate nicely with <a href="https://appdot.net/tags/HomeAssitant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HomeAssitant</span></a> or other locally hosted systems. Looks like <a href="https://appdot.net/tags/ReoLink" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ReoLink</span></a> is the current fave for video doorbell and outdoor cameras. Just curious if anyone had other good suggestions. Reolink looks really nice. Just curious what else I could be missing. Word of mouth is better than search and most tech sites these days.</p>
