dralgaegirl<p>Hello everyone! Giving this whole new Mastodon format a whirl! I am a professor at a <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/SLAC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SLAC</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/PUI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PUI</span></a> where I specialize in studying how human activities affect <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/freshwater" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>freshwater</span></a> <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/algae" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>algae</span></a>. Algae are the foundation of aquatic food webs, supporting the invertebrates and fish that eat them. They are also important indicators of water quality!</p><p>I've got a lot of research going on right now! I'm currently working with the Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper to learn more about a recurring <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/Euglena" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Euglena</span></a> bloom in Ellicott Creek. A big new project in starting with several collaborators is going to study how winter road salt can affect steam food webs throughout the whole year! It's going to be a lot of work but will yield important information that we can use to help protect water bodies and the organisms that live in them. </p><p>When I'm not working in the lab or teaching up a storm, I love to work in my vegetable garden and cook delicious dishes! Right now I'm obsessed with garden egg scrambles, using eggs from our chickens, tomato, basil, and chives from my garden, and finished off with local cheese. My husband and I also enjoy hiking and camping, especially with it dog!</p><p><a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/Introduction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Introduction</span></a></p>
