Maria<p>i do have a pair of sturdy hiking boots though. and i'm not averse to cycling if it's an e-bike and i don't have to bring it with me all the way from Norway.<br>usually, whenever i travelled, i booked tickets and hotels/hostels in advance. i guess buying bus/train/ferry tickets for same day departure wouldn't be a problem, but how do i find a place to sleep in, say, <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Portree" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Portree</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/PortR%C3%ACgh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PortRìgh</span></a> or <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Stornoway" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Stornoway</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Ste%C3%B2rnabhagh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Steòrnabhagh</span></a> when i get there?</p>
Donald James<p>No <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/aurora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>aurora</span></a> for us as the clouds remained overhead as long as I was out. However it stayed still and calm so there were a series of stunning <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/reflections" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>reflections</span></a> around the bay. The <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Hebredian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hebredian</span></a> seas of the North Atlantic are rarely this calm! 🙂</p><p>This was handheld, so the slight wobble and image compression gives a somewhat painterly or dreamlike feel... I think... what you could call either a bad photo or a <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/HappyAccident" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HappyAccident</span></a> , depending on your view of the result 😄</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/PortRigh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PortRigh</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/IsleofSkye" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IsleofSkye</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/nightphotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nightphotography</span></a></p>
Donald James<p>I had somehow missed that <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/ThickTrunkTuesday" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ThickTrunkTuesday</span></a> was a thing until now, but happened to take the perfect photo recently.</p><p>One of the larger trees on the footpath around 'The lump' in Portree.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/PortRigh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PortRigh</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/IsleofSkye" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IsleofSkye</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/scotland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>scotland</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/treesofmastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>treesofmastodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/bluesky" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bluesky</span></a></p>
Donald James<p>A heavy flurry of snow in the small hours has closed the schools and returned the village to white after a few days of thaw.</p><p>The trees in town look like coral at first glance (to me at least..🙂), but a crow perched at the very top surveying the scene gives the game away.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Snow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Snow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Sneachd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Sneachd</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Scotland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Scotland</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/WintryWeather" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WintryWeather</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/IsleofSkye" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IsleofSkye</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/HighlandsandIslands" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HighlandsandIslands</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/PortRigh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PortRigh</span></a></p>
Donald James<p>Some days the peaks of the <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Cuillins" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Cuillins</span></a>, twenty or so miles away from the village, are completely lost in the mist. At other times they appear hazy and distant. Donald James<p>Quite a stunning day after the last of the heavy snow showers cleared through 🙂❄️</p><p>Ben Tianavaig sitting proudly in the bay this afternoon and, just 10 minutes earlier, an awful lot of heavy snow on the way through the woods into the village</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/IsleofSkye" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IsleofSkye</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Portree" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Portree</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/ScottishIslands" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ScottishIslands</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Snow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Snow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Weather" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Weather</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/harbours" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>harbours</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/PortRigh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PortRigh</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/TreesofMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TreesofMastodon</span></a></p>

Donald James<p>Another great night for viewing the aurora in Skye. This was in town with a touch of light pollution so it must be very special for anyone with <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/ClearSkies" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ClearSkies</span></a> away from the streetlights 🙂</p><p>Once again, dog in one hand, phone in the other.... I'd have missed this had I not been taking pooch for a walk before bed.. I've probably reached the limits of "One handed photos of an aurora, propped against a tree" 😀</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/IsleofSkye" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IsleofSkye</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Portree" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Portree</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/PortR%C3%ACgh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PortRìgh</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/aurora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>aurora</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/auroraphotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>auroraphotography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/nightphotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nightphotography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/scotland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>scotland</span></a></p>
Charles Harper<p>The Scorrybreac Circuit is a walk from Portree. It provides a range of different terrains starting out along the shores of the Loch. Brodie enjoys all of it as there are plenty opportunities for snuffling as well as meeting other dogs. Here he is near the beginning. The walk only takes an hour and you can read more about it here:</p><p><a href="https://www.isleofskye.com/skye-guide/top-ten-skye-walks/scorrybreac" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">isleofskye.com/skye-guide/top-</span><span class="invisible">ten-skye-walks/scorrybreac</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/TongueOutTuesday" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TongueOutTuesday</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/isleofskye" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>isleofskye</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Portree" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Portree</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/PortRigh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PortRigh</span></a></p>
